Blue Origin do have more lofty goals. They are slow in achieving them though. Unlike SpaceX who are progressing like a bat out of hell.

I think that was probably more a case of them being confident in what they were doing and having a system, and indeed a mission profile, which was simple but effective, although I do think the radio responses to the pre-landing biometric checks were a bit on the sloppy side, what with everyone whooping and hollering instead of replying to the status queries. Still, it all seemed to go very well, with everything appearing to work flawlessly, and I do like the fact that the rocket engine appeared to burn pretty clean. Can't fault the booster touchdown either, that was about as spot on as you could get without actually landing right on the X. It'll be interesting to see where they go with that one, as it seems a bit more practical in terms of serious launch applications than that Virgin joyride ship. Not that there's anything wrong with joyrides of course, but it seems to me that Elon is number one, with this thing number two and the Virgin ship a very definite number three when it comes to practical applications such as satellite launches, trips up to space stations etc. All we need now is a warp drive and Bob's yer uncle. Whenever (if ever!) they manage to develop an integrated system where the "capsule" remains a part of the launch/landing booster, I'll consider it a great step forward. Fr. July 20, 20214 yr Mr. Bezos indicated today that he already had "a hundred-million dollars" in advance bookings for future flights. That's about four times the cost for week's sea voyage on a luxury liner. Bezo's tour lasts about a 10 minutes. but does not include sumptuous meals, island hopping, and shuffle board. But you do get to be called an astronaut. Ah, but I guess those who've signed-up can most likely swing both excursions...
July 20, 20214 yr You mean it only costs USD$25,000,000 for a whole week on a first-class sea voyage? Is that per person or per cabin? My last 32-day trans-Pacific was USD$240/person/day. I guess I need to find a more luxurious cruise line. The Virgin space plane was only ever intended for the task its just performed. Virgin launching satellites is a different system altogether and from the bottom of a 747 and it can do it very successfully. Blue Origin have grand ambitions other than just joyrides, but they are progressing at a snails pace. So yes, New Shepard has greater capabilities than the Virgin Space Plane because its part of a much bigger more capable rocket system that will (eventually) be manifest. (New Glen) SpaceX, again, are creating a different product that will take us to the Moon and Mars and even rapid transport around the globe for the military. No number ones, just different products for different tasks. Its like comparing an F22 with the Eurofighter Typhoon. Different products for different purposes.
