August 2, 20214 yr Hi all, I'm not at my PC today, in order to test this, but hoping someone can help. I have some content in my Community folder, with rather long, useless names. Will changing the name of folders in the Community folder, cause any problems or stop that content from working in the sim? And my second question, I have some products (such as Neil Birch's UK Farm Strips) where they've provided lots (in that case 50) of individual folders for scenery, all of which are clogging up the Community folder...... - If I created a parent folder (eg. "UK Farm Strips") and placed the individual content folders into that, would it prevent the content from working? Many thanks in advance for any help. You need to begin using the very useful and highly popular Addons Linker app that is freeware and does an incredible job of managing your MSFS addon products. Basically what it does is allow you to create folders anywhere on your system that you please, with short folder/path names, and then it will insert and remove, at you will, links to those addons into your Community folder. In essence it creates shortcuts. When you select to use an addon in Addons Linker it instantaneously places a shortcut for that addon into Community. When you wish to remove an addon, such as an airport you are not flying to or flying over, you can likewise remove it from the current contents of Community. It is an invaluable tool. I have heard a lot about this tool and its very clever and well designed. I wanted to ask though - would this tool only be useful to users who do not want all addons active all the time? Users who keep enabling/disabling scenery areas? I do not mind the loading time of the game and prefer to have all addons active all the time, no matter how massive the Community folder gets. Can the mod manager update mods, or give links to the update files (like Nexus Mod Manager)? In that case I can see a use for this even for someone like me as right now I need to keep checking flightsim.to for updates.
August 2, 20214 yr You can rename the folders in the Commuinity Folder to suit your taste. For example you can rename a livery for the A32NX that might read something like "Airbus 320 Neo A32NX_BritishAirways_Dan the Man" to simply Livery-A32NX-BA (for example). Then what you do is rename all you liveries to the same format. Keeps them together and very easy to find one you are looking for. Same with Airports - name them something like Apt-Paderborn-EDLP. The next one can be Apt-Durban-FALE etc etc. You get the idea. Just be careful renaming payware folders in Community. And never rename the files inside the add-on folder that goes in Community. Good answer. However while renaming those top level folders in Community, be careful about renaming any subfolders they contain. The names and structure of the subfolders may be essential for the addon to work properly. August 2, 20214 yr Author I've downloaded and tried the Addon Linker - great little tool. Reminds me of a cut down version of xOrganiser, for X-Plane (which I use and love). Great find, thanks Frank 👍 Bill 😎FS2024 • Currently in 'GA mode' : A2A Comanche 2024 & Aerostar • Black Square C208, Bonanzas, Barons, TBM850, Dukes • COWS DA40 & DA42 • FSW Legacy, C24R Sierra & C414 • Echo Falco F8L • FFX HJET, Visionjet and P180 2024 • Got Friends A32 Vixxen • FSReborn Sirius TL3000, Sting S4 and Piper M500 • Flyboy Rans S6S • Skyward DA50RG • SWS Zenith CH701, RV-8, RV-10, RV-14, PC12 • Milviz C310R • Air Foil Labs Bristell B23 TrackIR • BeyondATC • PMS GTN Payware • RealTurb • Axis & Ohs • FS Realistic Pro9800X3D • RTX 3080 • 64GB DDR5-6000NPPL licence holder in the UK
