August 12, 20214 yr I upgraded from my RTX 2080 8 GB Nvidia card to an RTX 3080 TI 12 GB very recently Under SU5 my original card gave me decent performance at 1440p (roughly 80 on the slider) at High settings. I could maintain 30 Fps locked 90- percent of the time except over Manhattan and London - with the Nvidia Control panel general options for refresh rate set to 60Hz . I curbed my desire to set the Video Option to 4k Res because the card fans screamed too loud and gave me micro hesitations and long pauses. With the New (Admittedly expensive graphics card) - I have my settings on Ultra - at 4k . Set up a flight over Manhattan, and I am happy to report that locked at 30 FPS (its only a 60hz 4K monitor), I have no pauses, barely any hesitations, and it is glorious smooth experience. The card fans are much quieter also. I run MSFS 2020 off an HDD, and am debating as to whether to re- install my System on an SDD (m2) , or move across msfs 2020 to an SDD (any suggestions welcome). One of the immediate benefits is controlling the takeoff along the runway. Previously, due to some hesitations, control inputs sometimes came too late to prevent proper control along the Centre median strip, resulting in larger over corrections during strong crosswinds - now, input is as smooth as and I have no problem of overcontrol. responses. Makes a huge difference to the flying experience IMHO. While I appreciate not everyone can afford the price of a new 3080 Ti, there is now beginning to be an easing of stock available and pricing appears to be slightly easing (still got a way to go i feel!!). I now have the system I originally intended to get - and for the moment, am a happy camper!!

Generally you would prioritise putting the system on an SSD first. Then the core game files and last if still room things like the packages/community folders. It depends how annoying those hesitations are as that is the main thing (other than loading time) an SSD may help with. Edited August 12, 20214 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick
