August 24, 20214 yr Author No worries. A few things still need tweaking but he seems to be onto it. It looks like it is now listed on the Orbx store as well: https://orbxdirect.com/product/iris-simulations-tutor
August 24, 20214 yr I must've missed the Orbx listing by just minutes. I literally checked just before paying over at Iris, and by the time the download was done it was listed at Orbx (where I wanted to buy: they have my details and updates are effortless). But all good. Thoroughly enjoyed a quick flight; sounds are pretty good, textures are just fine and alive but not at all twitchy for me. It feels like a military primary trainer. I like it, very happy with it so far and it's highly encouraging that Iris has already put an update out. Only issue I have found (apart from the overly shiny canopy clamp ... if I had to nitpick) is a strange repetitive flashing around the spinner with Motion Blur on. Switch Motion Blur off and all good. A quick comparison of the experience: Dev A: beautiful aircraft, incredible details and amazing textures throughout. Costs almost twice as much as the Iris Grob. Rarely, if ever, sees updates (on MSFS), in spite of glaring issues. Routinely ignores customer feedback Iris: quick turnaround addressing some customer feedback. Well priced. Checklist and comprehensive manual included. Feels like a lot of time was spent finessing the flight dynamics. Product feels mature and offers a great experience (especially when considering the price). Can it be better: well we all want 4K textures everywhere; and some – I do not know why – want working fuses. But for the $20-30 range I am very content with what I have seen so far. EDIT: two other things I have noticed: The whiskey compass seems to roll further than it should in a right-hand turn (but doesn't appear to do so in LH turn ... not tested thoroughly, just noticed this on one short flight. The Tutor needs a LOT of power to get moving (have tested on grass, asphalt and gravel). Seems unrealistic to me (in my highly limited experience with taxiing real aircraft). I will check out the whisky compass - my main issue with that thing is seeing it as it ends up getting shaded by the canopy. Other issues he is still working on (he decided to release the current patch early and not hold it up just for a few outstanding issues) that may come up for you include - the EHT gauge seems stuck, the AH gets out of alignment at high bank angles and also the tach reads 2400 at full power prop forward not 2700 like it should. These are known issues that apparently will be addressed in the next patch due out shortly. Overall though it flies really well. I like it. Edit: I am not seeing the tach problem. At least not at altitude. Edited August 24, 20214 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick

The static friction and RPM issues were mentioned in the 'Into The Blue' review. Apparently, he flew these in real life. His overall opinion of the addon was good. He said he would like switch sounds added, and hopefully these have been done now in the latest patch... Added base soundpack for inclusion of sounds relating to interactive items. I am impressed at the very quick response from Iris for sure - two patches/updates already, and another on the way by the sound of it. I am navigating my way North South through the Alps using the built in old school GPS as we speak. It is a fun little thing, reminds me a lot of the P149 but different enough to be worth having both. My understanding of the RPM issue is that when stationary sitting on the runway the engine limits itself to 2400 RPM but once your rolling it just behaves like a normal CSU prop. Whether the Grob has a real life rev limiter when stationary ? No idea. However it has no effect whatsoever on take-off and flying.

Sincere thanks for all the feedback on this - it is useful, and it definitely sounds like my kind of plane. I think it is safe to say I will be flying it tonight, along with Lep's Nieuport. Both on Orbx Central now I think. Edited August 24, 20214 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). Like almost everything in MSFS it has some teething issues but they seem to be getting sorted really quickly. The fixed gear, but bubble canopy you can fly while open and a CSU prop is actually a good little combo.
August 24, 20214 yr Just curious why everyone buys at Orbxdirect instead of direct from the developer? I know the Marketplace can take a loooooong time to get updates, but does Orbx get updates from the developers as soon as they are released? Seems like direct from the developer would be the ultra fastest. Edited August 24, 20214 yr by Mojave

Seems like direct from the developer would be the ultra fastest. Orbx have a good updater app with support for custom directories and linking to the MSFS Community folder which makes keeping things up-to-date simple and tend to get updated pretty quickly. They are also a big, trusted name that people might feel more confident buying from.
August 24, 20214 yr Author Temporary Sound Fix after latest patch. The latest patch seems to have successfully fixed sounds for the default (first) livery only. This seems to be just a typo where all liveries other than the first still point to an Asobo sound set rather than the correct new one. Easy Fix that worked for me open in notepad or any other text editor the file: community\iris-aircraft-tutor\SimObjects\Airplanes\IRIS_TUTOR\aircraft.cfg change every line in aircaft.cfg that starts with sound= to read just the following: sound=’’" save the file and close it

So, do they tend to get updates as soon as the developer releases it? For instance, I bought the BN-2 Islander from BlackBox Simulations and as soon as they release an update, I get an email and link. How soon after that will Orbx have it?

Seems like direct from the developer would be the ultra fastest. I like to buy from the developer where practical, but I am starting to lose track now. The Orbx Central app is pretty good, and helps keep things together. It also updates fairly quickly. The C140 for example was very quick. When I saw patch notes, the update was normally available next day or not long after, and it flags up that an update is available straight away from inside the app. One click and you are done! Asobo really need to look at how they are servicing their own marketplace. I would have thought with such a large project, with decent sales, there should be someone updating it every day. Carenado say they send the updates, but they can take weeks to be pinned up on the marketplace. Apparently they have to go through extra testing by Microsoft / Asobo. The delays have definitely put me off from buying from there. Edited August 24, 20214 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). The c140 patches were fast and the most recent Grob patch was up within 24 hours.
August 24, 20214 yr Whiskey compass fine, it seems the AH under-reads. And the landing light doesn't switch off after a flight. Relatively minor issues but still a blast to fly; and great for lightweight aerobatics. Edited August 24, 20214 yr by lupedelupe
