Using GTN750 popups as separate boxes (resolved)

Featured Replies

I use NpCV2.2 to enter settings using my keyboard.  Unfortunately the Alabeo Aztec does not accept instructions for its Box 2 Com or Nav.

Al suggested using a second pop up as box 2 which seemed a good idea but i find that they are still linked and I can't overcome the problem this way.

Is that correct Jean-Luc?  The map can be different but the other data can't be independent in the two two popups.

Hi,

I'm really not sure what this is about. Can you please explain what is "NpCV2.2" ?!

So it seems you can't use NpC with this aircraft in a way which allows you to separately control COM2/NAV2 is this correct?

If so what is the "popup box 2" you're referring to? Do you mean opening a 2nd RXP GTN device or something else?

Hi Jean-Luc and Bert,

Once again a problem caused by my lack of full understanding of just how things work but getting help from people who know!

First.   NpC (I think the V came from version2.2) is a set of LUA scripts that enable you to use the keyboard to select frequencies and headings.  I used it to set ADF frequencies with a .5 setting not available in the Alabeo Aztec.  I only used it for that for quite a while but then discovered that when I wanted to change the Nav2 frequency using the keyboard nothing happened (In the a/c the Nav2 is - from memory - an old Collins box).  Al helped me by establishing that it wasn't a problem with the NpC/LUA and suggested that using a second popup in the GTN750 would help overcome the problem.  It did but only after I realised I would have to (could!) set the Unit2 to be Com/Nav2.  Now when I change frequencies in Unit2 to a new active frequency, the Collins VOR frequency changes as well.  Before this I was a bit puzzled as to why I would want a second unit - now I can see why.

I hope that explains what happened.  I'm sorry, I should have come back here and put that explanation on record.

I've only been simming since the beginning of this year so thanks for your patience - and help.

@rog943

We've all went through the learning curve at the beginning and the simmer community is always here to help and assist getting through! It might seem sometimes daunting but with a little help sometimes, and patience, there is a lot to learn and this is also a driver to our hobby!

Please note if you're using 2 RXP GPS in the panel, you'll have to use different unit numbers, typicaly one device name ending with _1 and the other with _2 (like gauge##=rxpGTN!GTN_750_1 and gauge##=rxpGTN!GTN_750_2). When you do, any unit #1 uses COM1/NAV1 by default, and of course unit #2 uses COM2/NAV2. You can always override the setting and use any COM/NAV set with any device, but these are the defaults.

Thanks Jean-Luc for your encouragement.  It is all working brilliantly at the moment.

Roger
