FS2Crew FBW Project needs attention for VR mode

Featured Replies

Hi @byork. Thank you for finally releasing a great mod! While I am learning its ins and outs it immediately caught my attention that it is not VR-friendly and I fly exclusively in VR. First feature that I really missed is ability to bind the PTT button to my joystick button. It is really uncomfortable to try finding a letter key with the helmet on. Do you plan to add that capability to utilize joystick buttons along with the keyboard buttons? Second, there just has to be a way to display the list of currently applicable voice commands in-sim (it could be a tab in the top menu as you can open it and then move in the 3d space). I know you said it is needed to memorize the voice commands, but that is not that easy when one needs to go to the 2d app to see applicable commands every time. I doubt something like that can be done for the button control mode, but for the voice control that should be doable. Maybe you also have your own ideas on how to improve the interaction with the app in VR? Or maybe others could introduce their ideas too? Seamless voice control in VR will make the addon really wonderful. Thanks.

We're working on the joystick button integration.  It's complex.  We could do it now but the problem is Simconnect is currently bugged when it comes to reading joystick buttons properly.

Displaying voice commands in the sim... we'd have to research that.  It's a good idea though.  I like it!

I had the same 'issue'. I also would like to fly in VR only. But for training purposes like this I have reactivated my TrackIR equipment. Now I train the voice mode, the flows, the possible anwers during checklists and so on in 2D with TrackIR. Finally I will switch back to VR and hopefully I can make it without any further help. And that would then be the most realistical and satisfying way of doing it, I think. Must be a good feeling to communicate all the way flawlessly from cold and dark until securing the aircraft. By the way, I also have PushBack-Express, Pilot2ATC and VoiceAttack (only for essential VR commands like 'Drone View', 'Left wing', 'Show toolbar' etc.) in place. A lot to talk but hey, when I look to airclips, that's way the pros do it, right?

For the future, we're going to try to figure out a way to pass the contents of the "Assist Panel" to the Tool Bar command center.

It's very tricky though, because unlike FSX/P3D, developers are very restricted on what we can do "inside" MSFS now.  It's way more restrictive now compared to the olden days.

I guess that could be done using a web interface linked to a "fake server" running together with the app locally. That way you can display anything you want, like navigraph charts do.

That may be the only way.  Passing the information to a webserver then redirecting it back to the command center inside the sim.

That's a lot of moving parts, which we don't like.  The more moving parts, the greater the chance of something breaking down.

We'll try to find a way.

Exactly!, this way goes around all SimConnect limitations.

This future has arrived guys!, we just achieved the VR compatibility and a better Joystick/keyboard system. You will be happy when you see it. It's very basic, but its the basis for more interesting add-on.

Cheers,

Hi

Does it have VR support yet? Tried it earlier today, but no luck. How do you enable the ingame window in VR?

Kind regards
