Taxiing DC6 wheels kick up dust

Featured Replies

I usually don't taxi the DC6 with external view, but was surprised to see that when Missed the turn on the taxiway and ran over the grass, it the wheels kicked up a plume of dirt-dust. Is this something new, or have I just noticed it now?

Since SU5 i think, aircraft landing also display tyre smoke, or spray if raining.

Cool, guess I need to look at external view more often.

As a painter....I live in external view! 🙂   You're missing a lot Bob...and its actually pretty fun to command the plane from external view, even landing when you get the hang of it (its not really hard, once you've set up your views correctly).   Very cool to see the puffs of smoke when the tires touch, and as you mentioned....dirt when you're on mother earth's skin.

Also in external view...your view of how beautiful MSFS is, is vastly expanded and makes you gasp sometimes when you get the time of day and angle just right.....like this:

It was cool to watch the rudder as I was trying to keep her on the centerline, and the struts decompressing when she lifted off....followed shortly with the great gear retraction animation PMDG worked hard to get just right.

I feel a lot of folks who don't "get out as much" and only know the DC-6 from the cockpit view are missing a huge part of what makes this bird so incredibly special.   I love painting her for that reason...and the fact most of the liveries are bare metal. 🙂    I'm currently working on this one to add to my other USAF paint I just released.

Yes, I use external view all the time except when taxiing or landing. Where is your USAF repaint, I actually flew in one in the late 50'S

Hey Bob....my currently released USAF paint is here

https://flightsim.to/file/19637/pmdg-dc-6-usaf-63rd-maw

The one pictured above is still in the paint hangar.

Glad to hear that you do use external view and not a cockpit-only simmer who limits themselves to the cockpit as that is where you'd really be in real life....never on the outside.  LOL...I contend if it were real life, I'd not be in an office chair, looking at a monitor, and I open my imagination to be both a pilot in the cockpit...and...an aviation photographer hanging out of an open cargo door trying to get that one shot that will appear on the cover of Flying magazine. 🙂

Unstifled imagination is a wonderful thing. 🙂
