Starting the sim from Steam does not."

Same here, I still launch the sim from a Desktop icon setup from within the Steam app. Under "LIBRARY" I Right Clicked the MSFS Game icon ">Manage>Add desktop shortcut". You don't have to open the Steam app after that. I confirm this works as well.

When I start from a shortcut for the Fs2020 exe, I ALWAYS get the safe mode prompt. When I go to steam and start from there, it never happens.

I hear ya. I just put it down to "...part of my the Startup procedure". I don't even worry about it any more. Minor glitch to me, besides, the music pumps me up for my next advebture 😉.

I have Steam version, and if I try to start from from a Fs2020.exe shortcut it will start trough Steam client anyway so there are no difference, and I only get the safe mode prompt if the game had crash, just as it should.

Steam as well..I can live with the shortcut problem.

This may be exclusively a Steam problem.

To get a desktop shortcut to the store version of MSFS20, just open the XBox app, click on Microsoft Flight Simulator in the Most Recent list, and then select the three dot square next to the PLAY button. That will open a drop down menu that offers "Manage" as an option. From there you get to a floating window that lets you CREATE DESKTOP SHORTCUT. Do it!

The resulting shortcut opens MSFS20 normally unless it has undergone a CTD or similar non-standard fate, in which case you should be offered a safe mode option.

Going to the library/manage and add desktop shortcut works perfectly. Thank you for that.  I had it once before and was trying to re-create it and always got all the steam advertisments, etc. Much appreciated
