RXP - Update folder location rxpGTN-Fs.zip

Featured Replies

Hello!

Not having had an answer I return on this subject.

RXP update new version 2.5.28.3 (June 2021) ...... etc
This window is displayed at each startup of my PC, why?

If I download update a message tells me that this file already exists.
How can I be sure that the update has been installed?

The information page of my GTN says this:
SW Version 6.62.4 TRNG
Reality XP 2.5.28

Is this correct?

Thanks for your comments

Scroll up and look just above your message and find this.  Click just the portion of the link that says "RXP GTN 750/650 Touch".  Then read the very first message header there.

The message is written in a window that appears on the Win 10 desktop screen
It is not possible to execute what you recommend to do.

Hi,

The Software Update window tells you a newer version from the one installed on your system is available.

It also offers a "download" button to download a .zip file which contains the software installer.

Merely downloading the .zip file won't update the product though, you also have to unzip the archive and then run the unzipped installer.

Have you done this?

Don't try clicking on the image I posted. That was just to show you what to look for.   Use your mouse. Scroll up to the top of this web page, and click there.

Salut,

Yes I downloaded it the first time this message appeared but never found it.
What folder is it in?

When you select "download", it opens a folder browsing window which by default most likely is C:\Windows\System32 *

If you just click Ok, this is the folder where the file will get downloaded to.

*NB: this is an unfortunate limitation of Windows and the system tooling which is lacking the capability to setup the "working folder". I'm looking for solutions to change this and point to the user folder by default.

Window for update displayed on my screen.

Download update loads

Then the following message appears under Windows>System32:

"rxp-FS.zip already exists.

Do you want to replace it?"

I click on "Yes".

In Windows Systeme32 no trace of the .zip file

NB. Windows 10 is configured to display compressed files (.zip)

 Mystery?!?!?!?!

Do you have any idea about this problem?

No, but why don't you browse and save the file into a folder other than system32 like "Documents"?

What browser are you using?  I use Chrome and can set Chrome to save my downloads into a folder I have named "Downloads".  I can set the Microsoft Edge and Firefox browsers to do the same.  And all three of those browsers have an option you can set so that it will ask you where you want to save each download.

@fppilot the updates are not going through the web browser in this case, but are directly downloaded.

@Roland_Rcvau the exact file name is "rxpGTN-FS.zip"

Please note since Windows Vista the system folders are also redirected. For example writing something into C:\windows gets redirected here:

C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows

When browsing the C:\Windows folder the files are merged into view, but the actual folder they might reside is in the aforementioned virtual store folder instead.

In any case even if you don't find the file back, just make sure to browse to "Documents" for example the next time the update popup shows and you select to download the update file.

Bizarre Bizarre
This morning I have again the possibility to download the update.
And now I find the folder rxpGTN.FS.zip in the "Download" section but not in "Windows System32" which is already weird.
Right click on rxpGTN.FS.zip in the window the function 7.Zip does not appear?!
Nothing in C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows nor in "Documents".
If I return in "Download" rxpGTN.FS.zip disappeared. ?!?!
It is not in Win.Sys.32.

To go crazy
