Milford Sound weather - why always snow?

Featured Replies

Lately with live weather set I always seem to get snow when flying out of Milford Sound in New Zealand.  Actual live weather as reported elsewhere on the web for Milford Sound at present (including from MetoBlue)  is plus 14 deg Celcius!  Snow on the Milford Road is not uncommon but not down to sea level even in the middle of winter and certainly not in October with a north easterly wind as is being reported by Windy.com.  I try to be positive about MSFS 2020 and it looked very pretty flying out of a snowy Milford Sound - but it's just completely fictitious.  REX Weather Force is closer to the mark but can only provide weather based on the NZCH metar so you can't win either way.

You can get snow down to sea level in Milford, and it can snow in the middle of summer. Snowing at 14 degrees is way off though.

NZ has only 3 weather stations available to the public without buying subscriptions from NZ Met service. So interpolation sucks anywhere in NZ outside of NZCH NZWN NZAA.

They seem to put snow cover in many mountain locations around the World that I’ve seen, eg where it’s summer and completely inappropriate.

it must be an issue with Meteo Blue data and MSFS misinterpreting where and when snow cover should be on the ground. Like the OP I use Rex when I can’t bear it (in Switzerland in summer when it’s 25 C!). Rex is much better nowadays than it was but still not ideal.

Has anyone reported this to Zendesk? I keep forgetting… there’s a major weather update due I think in SU7? This ought to be getting fixed in that update - if we’re lucky.

Thanks guys at least it is not just me.  I don't mind if the weather depicted in the sim varies from reality but I do expect it to be appropriate for the elevation and time of year.  I would also like to know what weather the sim will depict at an airport I am flying to - you don't seem to be able to rely on real world metars for this as the sim just does its own thing.
