October 5, 20214 yr Hi all, I am still relatively new to flying and am trying to learn how I should navigate. I know I can follow roads etc with VFR but I want to learn a bit more, such as following a GPS map. For example, if I want to fly to the Isle of Scilly, it will be over sea, so I need to follow a route or use a map etc.. In FS9, there used to be the default GPS where you could see an overlay map with your aircraft - I am not sure if this exists in MSFS? Can someone guide me as I struggle to find airfields with such detailed scenery in this game and it would be beneficial to learn some proper skills.
October 5, 20214 yr There are GPSs in some of the aircraft such as the Cessna 172 or the Bonanza, and you can get the autopilot to track the GPS path by selecting it as the NAV source with the CDI button below the display. In the jets there are rudimentary FMSs which will provide a course similar to the GPSs, so there's always something to go by. But I find the best navigational tool is LittleNavMap which will give you a bearing to waypoint and distance for any navaid, and track your progress. I display it on a second screen so that I can always see it. Mike Beckwith
October 5, 20214 yr The V key will give you a map... If you start by loading a departure and destination airport, the map will have a magenta line for you to follow. Any airplane with a GPS, like the Bonanza will also display this flight path on the MFD map. Bert
