Key Assignment

Featured Replies

G'Day Folks,

First post here!

So, I wanted to assign a new keyboard short cut, but there flight deck switch isnt located in the FSX key assignment list.

So, how do I generate a keyboard shortcut for something not listed?

Thanks folks

What does the switch do?  Is the switch animated at all?

Hi,

Thanks for your response 🙂

The keys are for:

Aircraft exterior beacon lights

Aircraft exterior nav lights

Taxi lights

I was also having trouble with the BAC course button, which seems to activate both APR and FD autopilot buttons. 1F02 appears in the in the main gauge thing with the horizontal indicator/airspeed/altitud bits on it.

The DME button also seems ineffective.

Those are the main issues at the moment. Much like FS9, selecting keyboard shortcut for ALT hold during climb resets the preprogrammed altitude to the prersent aircraft altitude, but that can be sorted on the main screen switch thingy.

I see FSX has new key assignment names compared with FS9.

Thanks for your assistance which is appreciated 🙂

OK, now what aircraft are we talking about?

On FSX, just A320 using default A321 panel, plus default B737, and also a third party DHC-8.

Didn't have this issue in FS9 as the keys seemed to work across the board. Long time ago since I did this in FS9 and needed a recap.

Thanks again 🙂

Hi,
Thanks for your assistance.
I located the standard.xml thing and added these lines, but they didn't work...

<Entry>
    <Key>NUM *</Key>
    <Down>TOGGLE_BEACON_LIGHTS</Down>
    </Entry>
    <Key>NUM -</Key>
    <Down>TOGGLE_NAV_LIGHTS</Down>
    </Entry>
    <Key>UP</Key>
    <Down>TOGGLE_TAXI_LIGHTS</Down>
    </Entry>
    <Key>PGDN</Key>
    <Down>TOGGLE_DME</Down>
    </Entry>

Note all these commands are for the numerical keypad.

Key BCN lights brings up differential braking.

Here's a new problem (fortunately I backed up the stanbdard.xml file in advance) - adding the above assignments reset the my xml file to default, and all the keypad commands vanished.

Thanks

It's best to assign key values using the controls option in FSX or FSX:Steam.   If you can't find the event_id there then you either can't assign it or would need something like the registered version of FSUIPC.

You are missing three <Entry> lines in that code, causing the syntax of the whole file to be wrong.
Hence FSX resets to the defaults  ....

Like:

line
    <Key>PGDN</Key>
should be preceeded by the line

   <Entry>

Hello again 🙂

Thanks for your continued suipport on this topic.

First up - I did back up my fully working Standard file. It was 100% working last week. Havent flown all week, started FSX for first time since, and all keys were reset including the joystick. No problems, I copeied over the Standard file that was 100% working, but still everything was rest. So once again I reconfugured my flight stick and USB key pad from scratch...

So, toggling between the built in key assignments thing, and FSUIPC thingy, and I managed to get every working except for these buttons - all assigned correctly via FSUIPC thingy:

Taxi lights - they just dont want to switch on.

DME - the little button on the radio stack doesnt respond. I've tried all FSUIPC options to no avail. I can still turn on/off via mouse on screen.

Autopilot Approach - AP APR is unresponive. The button does not activate at all, as confirmed on the artificial horizon screen.

Other than that, all good 🙂

I just hope FSX doesnt reset the keys again!!!

All the best folks, and thanks for your patience - great support forum network for sure

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped on this topic and steered me in the right direction :)

Taxi lights mysteriously started working (not visual from flight deck but exterior view ok), and other issues worked around.

Strangely Num Lock + 4 and 6 didnt toggle AP Alt Hold or APR Hold respectively, but they are workable pressing shift+ 4 and 5.

Other than that,all good.

Happy flying all :)

😃
