Anyone upgrade from 2080 to 3070 Ti?

Recommended Posts

I just managed to snag on for $950. Wondering if its worth it (probably not) but better than paying over $1000 I guess. Got it from Zotac during a drop. My 2080 is dying I think but I really wanted a 3080 but after a year I at least found this. Anyone do a similar upgrade or can comment on their 3070 Ti experience?

Not exactly the same - but recently forked over for the 3070 coming from a 2070 Super and its been a great decision.

Now I'm more CPU bottlenecked with my 9900K is the limited by main thread. (playing at 1440P render scale at 125 locked at 40 FPS)

I don't have a 3070ti. But I wanted to ask what resolution are you planning to run the sim at and what are the rest of your specs?

I am planning to continue running at 1440p. I have a 1440p 144hz I use for flight sim and call of duty, and 1080p 280Hz I use for Valorant (a bit more competitive). I also have a 4K monitor but it is just too inconsistent when I run flight sim on that.

Rest of my specs:

5900X

ASUS B550-F STRIX

32GB 3600Mhz

Run the game off of a 970 PRO.

I am thinking that the PCI-E 4.0 of the Ampere cards may also contribute to the performance. I have a friend who just built his first PC with a 5800X 32GB and a 3070 Ti and have seen him play COD and what not and it runs a TON better than the 2080. He doesnt have Flightsim though, and I know the game is probably never going to pull 60FPS anyway. It does on and off right now with the 2080 but would be nice more often.

Build is similar to mine .. the 3070ti should be a proper step up just above the 2080ti. At the resolution you plan to run it should be more than enough.

Sure wish you got a 3080 though.. that would have been the best match.

Enjoy!

A 3070Ti should be on par with a 2080Ti which I have, and I play in 3440x1440 Ultra with great performance.

That is all good stuff to hear. The real other let down, was the 8GB of VRAM. I had a 1080 Ti for 5 weeks before it died and got it RMA'd which in turn got me the 2080 I have now, warranty is up and it artifacts sometimes so it is what is is.The 1080 Ti almost seemed better than the 2080, but idk. It is a non-super too.

I upgraded from a 1080 TI to a 3070 TI and am experiencing stellar results in true 4K on mostly Ultra settings with both LODs set to 200 and Render Scaling at 100.  Here are comparisons of the 2080 TI vs the 3070 TI.  In the second link is a look at MSFS 2020 performance starting at about 1:20 into the video.

Its not ... apart from 2nd Gen Ray tracing..Its just above and Userbenchmark is a HIGHLY Controversial benchmark to use for people that do regular bench marking.

I also posted a comp between a 2080 Ti and 3070 TI and he asked about a 2080, not a 2080 TI.  The 3070 TI offers better performance than the 2080.

It clearly does .. but the reason why we mentioned 2080ti was because we wanted to give the OP an equivalent reference as to how much of a step up he would get in "last gen" terms from a 2080 non super to a 2080ti with the 3070ti.

Most are familiar with last gen card performance. I wanted to give a clear picture as to which current model is equal to which last gen card for a clear picture.

Example

RTX 2080Super = RTX 3060TI

RTX 2080ti = RTX3070  and so forth.

What an excellent reply!  I was unaware of userbenchmark.com and it is now one of my top sites for making upgrade decisions.  Kudos and thanks, RobertR

Do a web search for "UserBenchMark.EXE" and you can measure your own system vs others.
