Expensive chunks of rock!

Featured Replies

And those expensive chunks of rock are actually two asteroids that have been discovered that have so many precious metals that they exceed our planets entire reserves.

They’re reckoned to be 85% metal and one is thought to contain enough iron, nickel and cobalt to exceed Earth’s reserves.

Get ready for space mining boys and girls!

As I understand , switching over to electric vehicles will take vast amounts of copper and nickel and other precious materials . So hopefully this will be a great source for these in the future .

The space technology to actually mine and bring back asteroid ore is certainly more than a hundred or so years away.  And the cost basis to do so might be considerable. We have not even returned a man to the moon in 45 years.  Just the re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere of a mining vehicle loaded with tons of space rock is a little daunting...

Yep, although we are doing a much better job now with recycling batteries etc. But yes, we need resources  and they are running out.

Phosphorus and a number of rare earth elements. Rare earth elements are said to be 15 years away from depletion.
