RTX 3060 question ??

Featured Replies

I initially startled running the install of MSFS 2020 running a GTX1060 card and i7 7700k. Later upgraded the computer used to a i7 10700F and RTX3060. I didn't think to switch drivers or make a new config file for a couple of months after changing computers. Strange thing is, I've always run vsynch on, locked at 30fps. After changing FTX drivers to RTX and rebuilding the config file, I still run vsynch on, locked at 30, but framerate is reported as 60 fps no matter the method used to check the frame rate. It's not causing problems but what causes the discrepancy????

I’m sorry I don’t have the answer..However I was hoping you may be able to share your experience with your upgrade, I have a similar system that you had and planning an upgrade to almost exactly what you upgraded to, so was very curious if the upgrade was worth it in the end? If you had to do it again would you have upgraded?

Thanks

Where are you getting the framerate from? Is it the in game FPS counter or some external app ?

absolutely, I would do it again. I could set things "higher" and no longer had trouble with keeping 30 fps with a lot of micro stutters. In the beginning I was amazed that MSFS would run as well as it did, then after upgrade, I could really enjoy the experience. Now I run 60 to 70 fps, while locked at 30. Go figure.

Just to add - what I have now was a special on Amazon (ABS offering) didn't expect it to be as good as it turned out. I did swap the original 8 gig ram for a 8x8 ram set (16gig), I'm fixing to stick in another 8X8 set,

in Dev mode window, windows task manager and the afterburner app

OK so sounds like the frame rate is legit.

Where did you set up the MSFS vsync, in NVidia control panel under game specific settings or in the game itself ?

in game, I've considered playing with nVidia inspector, there may be a difference.

* not set in control panel, but I may mention that I am set on "performance", not "quality"

Try limiting it in the settings below rather than in game:

Thank you for responding, I found something similar on newegg that is pretty close to your current system, I’d be coming from a I7700 non K with a 1060. Glad your experience is better!

Cheers!

I am not sure, but wasn't there a "bug", that the frame rate limiter inside FS is refering to the monitor refresh rate?! So "60" full monitor refresh rate, "30" means half of refresh rate. So perhaps, your monitor was on 60 Hz before, so "30" in the config is 30 in reality, but now it works with 120 Hz, so "30" is 1/2 of 120 = 60 frames?!

My monitor is also in 120 Hz, and "20" in the config gives me 40 frames in the game.

I understand your explanation, but my "monitor" is a 42" 60hz Visio TV. So the 120Hz doesn't fit.

One last note on the ABS, The case is not exactly "cool running", at least not compared to a full size "HAF case". I had to upgrade the cooler, the new bladed version of Cooler Master. I still might add a top fan. It is doing okay after the cpu cooler upgrade. ( I noticed newegg no longer offered the i7 chip with 8 cores, but the i5 with 6 cores looked okay, seemed to be a newer mother board)

As Glenn had noted. I turned off vsynch in game (which allowed unlimited frames) which then was variable between 62 and 70 frames. I used nVidia Inspector and set refresh rate at 30.

reopened MSFS and the frame rate is now 30. So it doesn't operate correctly setting it "in Game" - very interesting

Yes, it's a littel bit a mystery...i used another program (GEES, landing analyzer) and the limit i set was ignored. Exit the addon, and the frames were locked stable without even restarting FS. After several tests, it was one single setting in NVInsp, which caused this strange issue. After i reset that setting, i can use Gees and FS with a locked frame rate as set.
