Community folder location choice offered in default menu

Featured Replies

As my Community folder grows and grows it would be nice if like cache you can specify on demand a different drive for the sim to access the community folder.  I could see in another year needing a TB drive alone for just the community folder.  I posted this on the main forum to see what others think and get some visibility with ASOBO.  I know there's a mod but just the same I would be nice to have this as a default option in the sim for desktop users (actually XBOX users could benefit from this feature as well with their external hard drives.

When MSFS Microsoft Store Edition is first installed there is an option to install the files wherever the user wants to put them.
By far the easiest way to solve the problem is to either choose a drive that is large enough in the first place or
move the files to a larger drive and give that drive the same drive letter as the existing inadequate drive.

Much easier than both of these is to create a Community folder somewhere large enough for present and future installations and
link it back to the MSFS folder. This only needs to be done once and does not need to involve any third party software.

Even easier and more elegant is to use the Addons Linker app.

Very few addons need to be in the Community folder, and you can have as as many addons folders as you want, across multiple drives if required.

If you use Add on Linker you can have your add ons anywhere.

Personally, I would rather have Asobo focus on the long list of unsolved issues, rather than recreating a perfectly well implemented solution..

Especially given MS' track record of convoluted folder/file structures for the sim.. 😉
