Video Memory Error in 5.2?

Featured Replies

Having purchased and installed Ver 5.2, I am continually receiving an error message telling me that my video memory is used up and then the program exits to the desktop...I am using, on the same computer, Xplane, FSX-SE, P3d Ver 4.5 and even MS2020 and have never received this error! I have a video card with 8GB of memory...Can someone give me an idea on how to correct this situation? I was really looking forward to using V5.2!
Thanks a lot...

Does this happen all the time? It usually only happens with really heavy aircraft at heavy airports and dense weather conditions, but otherwise the default F-35 and default spawning airport should not just immediately run you out of VRAM. If it does, then you probably need to reduce some settings to prevent P3D from reaching that memory limit.

This error only really "appears" on P3D v5 because of it's use of DX12, (X-Plane, FSX, and P3D v4.5 all use, OpenGL\Vulkan, DX9\DX10, and DX11 respectively) and DX12 is different from these other rendering engines in that it requires the program to manage memory itself, unlike these other engines where it utilizes the driver to shift between RAM and VRAM. The problem with this is that if you run out of VRAM, then that's it.

System specs?

Generally you have to jack up your settings and add things to v5 to get it to exceed 8GB VRAM...but I have seen this happen with a fresh v5 install on laptops with dual integrated Intel+ discrete nVidia graphics where the system wasn't properly configured to use the nVidia GPU and was trying to run P3D on the integrated Intel chip instead.

I am sorry folks. I was wrong about my video card...It is actually:  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 with 4GB GDDR5...So no wonder I am running out of video memory...Duhhh...Guess I need to consider an upgrade if I can find one...Sorry for the misinformation...

 upgrade iam afraid

ROG Crossair Hero X670e , 9900X, TUF 4090 , X4 NVME's. OS  2TB 980 Pro , MSFS  2TB WD Black , Kington Fury 64GB ram ( 6000) Corsair RM1000 PSU, Artic Freezer iii 360 AIO  . Phanteks P600s Case ,TCL QM8B 50" 120 Hz  TV,second 24 inch screen for charts you tube etc, and 11" touch screen for the EFB. Warthog Stick and TCA Captains throttle ( full pack)  Velocity 1 Rudder Pedals , extreme3D for the Tiller,Streamdeck XL x2 / Streamdeck +/Streamdeck mini because i like pressing buttons

To make matters worse, the 970 really only has ~3.5GB of VRAM, plus another 0.5GB of much slower overflow RAM.

nVidia settled a class-action lawsuit over misrepresenting that in their advertising (back around 2016, IIRC).

You're definitely going to need a better GPU for P3Dv5.

You can run it on a 970 but you'll have to scale back your settings.  Put everything on very low settings to get the sim to start. Then add things to them until you hit the wall then back off. By doing this I was able to run on 3 1080 monitors with flyable frames. Two things that helped me alot was lowering texture resolution and AA. good luck.

I9-9900, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3090 FTW
