Questions about P3D

Featured Replies

The recent release has me wondering what it would take to get my current version 5.1.12.x up to the latest, newly released version.

The P3D website describes the new version as an update. Is it? Update from what? None of this is clear (to me; as I'm easily confused).

I miss my Maddog, A320x and the PMDG aircraft. And as much as I hate the fiddly nature of P3D, I'm longing have access to the aforementioned aircraft.

Is it that I simply need to purchase P3D yet again?

Instruct me, please.

Hiya,

The good news is no you don't need to pay again for this up-date, it is entirely free for v 5 users.

Now you are advised by LM download the full new 5.3 version then to to un- install (NOT DELETE) your current installation, in your case 5.1.

After that you run the 5.3 set-up from the package that you have just downloaded and that takes care of everything.

When you first run 5.3, you'll be asked to re-activate the program.

This is done by simply inputting the same purchase codes from your purchase email, as you put in when you originally installed v5.1.

One other item to know that in most cases you do not have to reinstall your add-ons if you reinstall 5.3 in the same folder as your old version.

Happy Holidays!

I also currently have P3D 5.1 Hf 1 installed on my D drive. Something I am still confused on is this: What about the P3D v 5 "top entry" P3D app that is approximately 68 GB in size? Some individuals in another P3D topic, on this forum, have stated to un-install that as well as the scenery, client & content segments, while others individuals have noted, do not touch (un-install) that one.

In my current P3D 5.1 Hf 1 I have many third party addon airplanes within the SimObject\Airplanes folders. Am I understanding correctly that most-likely I will not have to re-install them as well? If so, then also the specific gauges that go to the addon aircraft will also be present within the gauges folder?

Thanks,

I did it (installed the new vertsion). It's 92.6 Gb on my install, not including the Add On (w/e it's called) folder of course.

Surprising that a 30 Gb download expands to that size.

All my main aircraft are there and seem to work, so yeah, shouldn't have to reinstall your add-ons. You might have to run, for example, Orbx Central and have it verify your files and check each item's configuration.

Come to think of it; I didn't wipe the existing P3D folders and simply uninstalled all and installed the new version. So, my bloated size is a result of who knows what being left behind from the uninstall.
