If you don't see something that helps in the manual at the link I posted above, perhaps something is corrupted.  So one thing you could try if you haven't already done so, is to go your Content Manager and delete the G1000NXi. Then close the sim and restart it, and then use the Content Manager to re-install the G1000NXi.

I've seen the issue at multiple airports but so far, I've only been trying it in the Baron. Let me check the Bonanza and see if the same thing occurs.

Edit: I observed the same issue with the Bonanza.

Might as well arm approach as soon as cleared for it; there's nothing to be gained by waiting. The risk of waiting is that if the box senses you're above the glidepath by even a foot (what may still look like a centered diamond to you), it won't capture. 

The next question is, what kind of approach are you trying to fly? Not all RNAV approaches have a glidepath.  Look for an LPV approach. 

Can't imagine why lateral guidance would revert to roll mode.  It almost sounds like this is an oddball approach that terminates at the FAP or something. 

I've flown several LPVs and LNAV+Vs in the bonanza since the NXi was last updated and everything worked fine.

It's interesting. So I was able to make this work at KTMK, which is strictly an LNAV approach--no LPV available. Conversely, I tried it at several other airports with LPV available and it did not work, which is to say--it hung at the last crossing restriction.

 

One thing of note I did discover is that when you select the APPR button, a white 'GP' annunciation comes on at the top of the panel. However--the software of the sim indicates that APPR mode is NOT on. This is probably what threw me off earlier. The assistance software of the sim told me it was off so I would press the button again. That's probably what kicked off the NAV mode and put it in ROLL mode.

So what I'm finding is that the vertical guidance is very hit or miss still.
