The bump maps on the ground try to make a fake shadow effect when light from your aircraft reflects off of it. It's a result of the PBR runways and some airports like FSDreamTeam's LAX (despite it not being PBR) has the same issue as I believe it uses bump maps. It you notice this doesn't happen with airports that aren't PBR, however because of the recent update, the global environment map and runway textures are now PBR. The high anti aliasing is just trying to depict that detail, hence why you're seeing the sparkling on only high AA. My airports are default and the shimmering lines thing for me is happening towards the other end of the airfield towards the end of the runway but when the shimmering lines thing is not there neither is the sparkling dot thing which is actually close to my aircraft. It's possible I'm seeing to issues but the same the same thing is stopping it. Are the default runways PBR? 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2
December 16, 20214 yr Here is what I'm seeing. The little sparkling dots that appear around the plane are really less of a problem for me but the shimmering lines associated with them in the distance are beyond ugly and kind of remind me of the sort of thing I used to see 20-30 years ago. Those lines shift and shimmer around as the camera moves and it's like gaps in the textures appearing and dissappearing for want of a better description. 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2
December 16, 20214 yr The artifacting in the screenshot may be a GPU related issue, as I don't think that issue is a P3D one. You may want to confirm if it is GPU or driver related, as the 6900XT has had some silicon and VRAM failures, though very rare. The default runways are PBR, but the shimmering I was talking about is only present during night. Edited December 16, 20214 yr by arwasairl

I stress and stability tested the hell out of this rig for a week looking for a hardware fault that turned out to be a software problem just last week. It's not the card. Could be a driver issue for sure or it could be something to do with P3D and Anti-Aliasing. Maybe even related to the fact that P3D doesn't Full Screen maybe. I don't know. Apart from that issue on the gorund at airports the sim runs very well. 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2
December 16, 20214 yr I found this thread: https://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=141801 Apparently, the issue was made worse by an update from Windows... and the work around is no longer possible. The jaggies for me was so bad even at 4x SGAA (not only the white dots, but also shimmering airport textures, taxi signs) that I had to disable EA. It might just be a placebo, but I see less shimmering with it off than on likely as there is less brightness. Will wait for a hotfix from P3D if they are able to fix this... MSFS had a similar issue in the past but it was patched.

Leftis from Flight Sim Labs is in that thread explaining that they have tried to get Lockheed to sort it but nothing is getting done. 5800X3D - Strix X570-E - 32GB 3600Mhz DDR4 - AMD RX 9070 XT- Samsung 980 Pro x2

I'm flying with default clouds, using active sky weather engine. Do not own yet envtex, ASCA or Skyforce. Which one would you recommend for the new P3D version? I am thinking to get envshade as well, but unaware how much of a benefit it gives as EA looks good now. So any insight would be helpful. me too , i found SF was giving me stutters in v5.3 , i think default clouds look ok with ASP3D using "enable detailed EA clouds " ROG Crossair Hero X670e , 9900X, TUF 4090 , X4 NVME's.
