P3Dv5.3 on new PC - No Fun!

Featured Replies

I had the same issues, on my PC I set AVX to 0 and changed my power plan to "Ultimate performance". That setting is not listed unless at command prompt paste in this command “powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61” without the quotes. Hit Enter. Then go in power settings and change to this mode. You don't need to OC over 5.0 (unless you want). P3D, MSFS It is smooth and no stutters at all. This i9-12900K and RTX3090 will play games with us, very sensitive and demanding in many aspects.

Also as mentioned:

Options/Sounds section go to Primary Playback Device and change that to whichever device you are using

Turn off Game ModeI turned off the HAGS feature in windows.

@Ray Proudfoot road traffic is low at 10%, only highways. I have a 3440x1440 display and run it with 30 fps via P3D menu. This gave me always a smooth experience with my former system and P3Dv5.2.

10% should be okay. A 3090 running at that resolution isn’t a problem. It’s not getting out of second gear.

Perhaps you could post the AffinityMask settings from your Prepar3D.cfg. That’s a new feature in 5.3. They’re at the end of the file.

One thing about using the frame rate limiter in P3D. It’s never recommended. Move it to unlimited and enable VSync. If your monitor has a 30Hz option that should give a marked improvement in smoothness.

@Nemo

I think I jumped on your thread over on the MSFS forum as I was in the same position with my new PC.

I have a very similar system to you, i9-12900K , ASUS ROG strix RTX 3090, ASUS Z690 A, but I have DDR4 ram (64 GB) . I’m running 3 x 2TB Samsung 980pro m2 SSDs with windows 11 pro on C, P3D and XP11 on D and Orbx scenery library on E.

I was having awful problems, my P3D orbx TE GB kept causing a crash. I couldn’t leave orbx central overnight to download as I’d check in the morning and the PC had blue screened and rebooted.

I couldn’t fly any sim platform for more than 20 minutes before I either got a CTD or blue screen and reboot.

P3D although it looked super smooth on my monitor it was very jerky to the point of not being usable in VR.

Anyway, despite downloading over 3TB of sims I decided enough was enough, I threw it all away and restored windows.

I also followed  the advice given on your MSFS thread, I updated my motherboard BIOS, and I turned off the HAGS feature in windows.

I’m not sure which of those things worked, maybe all of them but I now have a fully stable system with no crashes since. P3D is running buttery smooth in VR at about 50 -80 fps with the world objects and other sliders at max or high. In 2D on the monitor I’m getting anywhere from 80 to 200 even with the PMDG big birds and orbx TE, all very smooth so you should be seeing that too.

I hope you find a fix, I was certainly sharing your pain but now I’m up and running I’m blown away at how this new hardware is running the simulator (s)

Thanks for your encouraging words Jon. I was close to give up with P3D. My first assumption that disabling HT was the cure was wrong. I'm still struggling with DXGI DEVICE HUNG and CTDs. Now I have disabled HAGS as you suggested too. I also had to delete the P3D config file several times. Otherwise I got a CTD when the the flight loads. At least I could start a the default flight now again. Let's hope and knock on wood.

Do you have HT enabled? And what are your CPU temperatures in P3D over demanding areas?

Follow the instructions in this topic to cure the DXGI problem. Best if you can install 471.96 drivers though. Keep EA off too.

[JobScheduler]
AffinityMask=65535
P3DCoreAffinityMask=65535
MainThreadScheduler=0
RenderThreadScheduler=2
FrameWorkerThreadScheduler=4

that was the same for both, HT enabled or disabled which is a bit strange because I deleted the config file after I changed the BIOS but kept a copy of it.

Thank you, did as suggested. Let's hope it solves my problems.

You have a CPU with 16 cores so 65535 is using all of them. I suggest you turn HT off if enabled. That’s such a different CPU to mine I’m not sure what might be best for you. The other entries look fine.

Stutters are gone now. Not exactly sure what caused them, my guess would be HAGS rather than HT. Now I have HAGS off and HT off and the sim is smooth as it should be. Frames could be a bit better. Currently I have 26-30 fps over Seattle area with ORBX TE WA in the LM C130J - no other add-ons.

@Nemo,

Is any reason for HT OFF? The only difference on my PC was with HT OFF, textures will not load as fast and smooth versus HT ON.

Second, with that CPU ad GPU you should have a constant 30 FPS. Maybe in BIOS you have AVX 2 or AUTO? What are your P3D settings and Nvidia?

The idea is if you happy with performance and smooth don't touch anything.

@Nemo,

I forgot about this item to check. This might be a factor, it was for me.

I had to disable VBS.
