December 15, 20214 yr Some days ago, I have built a brand new PC (see signature) and have just installed P3Dv5.3. No add-ons are installed so far. I've only adjusted the settings to High-Ultra as I was used to have it on my former build. Loading P3Ds default flight with the F35-A and take off gave me just a bad experience. As soon I was airborne stuttering started. Continuously, every 5-6 seconds I get a so-called long frame ... Monitoring my hardware shows reasonable values, CPU usage of all cores, temperatures around 50 °C, graphic card and RAM usage are within the limits, temperatures are fine too. Can it bee that P3D doesn't like the 12900K and its novel core structure? Or is there a particular setting which I have to consider? I may add that MSFS runs butter smooth with my new hardware. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. After I did that...smooth animation, and can keep my FPS mostly to 33 FPS (locked.) On my system, going from v5.2 to v5.3, it was what I just mentioned that gave me a very bad (initial) v5.3 performance. This also might be one of your issues, or not at all...

December 15, 20214 yr Moderator @Nemo, what setting do you have for road traffic? It’s a frame rate killer. Try zero and see if that helps. What resolution and refresh rate is your display? Apart from this I think your suggestions concerning the P and E cores are really worth to try. @Ray Proudfoot road traffic is low at 10%, only highways. I have a 3440x1440 display and run it with 30 fps via P3D menu. So I highly recommend this method to any users still struggling. Download here, https://bitsum.com/ , check which cores P3D is using (while in the air), and assign other programs such as SODE, active sky, other addons etc to cores not in use by the sim itself.
December 15, 20214 yr Author Thanks for all the suggestions. Will try all of them. I have now reduced some settings and it was a bit better. But in turns it is still a stutter fest. Overall performance seems to be much lower compared with my former hardware/P3Dv5.2. Next I'll try is ProcessLasso. My current opinion: my new hardware/MSFS "+ + +", my new hardware/P3Dv5.3 "- -" . If there were not my beloved PMDG and Majestic a/c together with AIG and ActiveSky, I would remove P3D immediately. What is my main concern, I have not yet installed one them. - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
December 15, 20214 yr This may sound nuts but it worked for me after my first installation of P3Dv4.5. Yes, 4.5 not 5.x but you never know. This works if you're using a non-default sound device. It's a suggestion from a YouTube vid and sadly, for the life of me, I cannot remember this person's name but his suggestion solved the initial terrible frames and stuttering I was having. In the Options/Sounds section go to Primary Playback Device and change that to whichever device you are using, not the <Default Primary Playback Device>. See if that works. December 15, 20214 yr @Nemo I think I jumped on your thread over on the MSFS forum as I was in the same position with my new PC. I have a very similar system to you, i9-12900K , ASUS ROG strix RTX 3090, ASUS Z690 A, but I have DDR4 ram (64 GB) . I’m running 3 x 2TB Samsung 980pro m2 SSDs with windows 11 pro on C, P3D and XP11 on D and Orbx scenery library on E. I was having awful problems, my P3D orbx TE GB kept causing a crash. I couldn’t leave orbx central overnight to download as I’d check in the morning and the PC had blue screened and rebooted. I couldn’t fly any sim platform for more than 20 minutes before I either got a CTD or blue screen and reboot. P3D although it looked super smooth on my monitor it was very jerky to the point of not being usable in VR. Anyway, despite downloading over 3TB of sims I decided enough was enough, I threw it all away and restored windows. I also followed the advice given on your MSFS thread, I updated my motherboard BIOS, and I turned off the HAGS feature in windows. I’m not sure which of those things worked, maybe all of them but I now have a fully stable system with no crashes since. P3D is running buttery smooth in VR at about 50 -80 fps with the world objects and other sliders at max or high. In 2D on the monitor I’m getting anywhere from 80 to 200 even with the PMDG big birds and orbx TE, all very smooth so you should be seeing that too. I hope you find a fix, I was certainly sharing your pain but now I’m up and running I’m blown away at how this new hardware is running the simulator (s) Edited December 15, 20214 yr by jon b 787 captain. December 15, 20214 yr Author Problem SOLVED ... kind of Disabling Hyperthreading in the BIOS solved it for me. No stutters, continuously 30 fps (limited in P3D). Only thing, after disabling HT I got these terrible DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG errors, latest when loading a flight. This could be cured by deleting the config file ... Man, what a mess for simply running a sim on a new machine. Imagine a real P3D newbie (are there any at all?) would came across these problems. At least, I can continue to set up my P3D together with some add-ons. Time will tell if I keep it. - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
