MSFS2024 - I can't assign joystick buttons
Far too complex a topic that requires constant back and forth to explain. Coming from 2020 I, too, was leery of how I would manage with the controls set up in '24 but, after watching a number of YT uploads and using chatGPT (invaluable but needs prodding and do NOT accept everything it tells you as the gospel truth), have more or less understood how '24 works. Try a 'msfs2024 controls set up' search in YT (perhaps narrow it down to your hardware) and go through the list. There's one by AirborneGeek and one by Huddison that helped me a lot. It's a step-by-step process so my advice is don't rush it. Best of luck, mate!

Going to a lower refresh rate monitor, worthwhile?
speedyTC replied to Luis Hernandez's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcMy UW runs nominally at 100Hz. I have my settings in '24 set at Half refresh rate (turned on VSync, set to half and then turned VSync off again), FSR3 @2x, nVidia Reflex low latency at On+Boost which means that my monitor is actually running at 50Hz (if I am understanding it correctly). As my machine isn't anywhere near "top of the line" I have turned down a number of settings in Global Rendering Quality without any real effects on the quality of the image, use AutoFPS and I am consistently seeing 70fps even with 'heavy' addons at 'heavy' airports. High refresh rates are important when playing fast paced action games but given the relatively glacial speeds at which the sim runs in comparison I have felt no overwhelming urge to dig deep into my wallet for a high refresh rate screen. As always, YMMV.

I have lost the icon for the shortcut to running MSFS2020
I took advantage of the discount that Steam had and installed '24. It seems to be as stable as '20 and I seem to be getting a smoother flying experience overall. My tipping point was reading about GSX's roadmap and how development would continue for '24 as it offered a better path forward. If Virtuali, who has been incredible in providing continuity and updates with no charge to the customer, is stating that development for MSFS2020 is becoming an issue and most devs stating outright that they will not be including '20 in their plans, that was my trigger.

The Truth About Gaming When You Get Older
Do any of you dinosaurs remember the Infocom series of games? To me they still are a monumental achievement combining books with technology. They stimulated the imagination and built worlds in one's mind, just as books do, they were educational and extremely satisfying when you solved one of the many, many puzzles thrown in. Not to mention the genius packaging of the games (yes, physical boxes filled with all sorts of goodies that pertained to each game/book). Sadly because of a long series of residence changes all my copies have been lost. InvisiClues.orgThe Complete Infocom Archive | InvisiClues.orgThe complete archive of Infocom game artifacts and history, including game information, Invisiclues, historical articles, and more! All presented in an entertaining, nostalgic way.

Monitor Upgrade - Worth the expense
speedyTC replied to NZAA's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcLike a champ. Caveat: Experiment with your settings in the sim. Everything on ultra is bound to cause issues. I also found using AutoFPS to be hugely beneficial.

I have lost the icon for the shortcut to running MSFS2020
Tried right-clicking on the blank icon, Properties ->Change Icon? You will need Admin permissions and may have to do it a couple of times for it to stick.

Monitor Upgrade - Worth the expense
speedyTC replied to NZAA's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcNever regretted switching to an UW 34" (2K) from my older 27" 1080p. Immediate and apparent difference. Budget-friendly too!👍

GSX: "You need to stop engines to request ground services"
Have you tried ignoring it and carrying on with enabling GSX from the handlebar? I get the "parking brake not set" message (it is set) as well from time to time but GSX starts anyway.

Strange goings on at Flight Sim Labs
No point speculating or indirectly berating the FSLabs team. I'm sure they're adult enough to know/realise that their attitude could be alienating customers or potential customers but that is their concern. Even though I do own their A321CEO and am generally satisfied with it in MSFS2020, apart from the frustratingly incomplete visuals, I am holding off on their NEO. Too many complaints and unresolved issues in their fora are allowing me the luxury to wait for, either the anticipated update which is supposed to solve a tonne of issues or, for the Fenix version (hardly any news on that front either).

GSX Assistance services auto mode not working
I could be completely wrong and please enlighten me if I am but I was under the impression that the GSX/PMDG integration isn't as seamless as it is with other addons such as Fenix and FSLabs.

Anyone using a 16GB graphics card with MSFS2024 in 4K?
nVidia has, apparently, indicated that the Super versions of the 50 series may be on the way, if the OP is willing to wait for that to materialize (a 5070Ti Super with 24GB sounds enticing).

Ursa Minor 32 issue
Does this behaviour of the right reverser lock seem normal to you (compared to the right one) after six months of fairly limited use? https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/4a2kgq0qim4xwu4732iq7/reverser.mp4?rlkey=ipqn2r9xf2s6yimf1sj1g3w4c&dl=0 It seems to be working itself looser and looser. I am in contact with Winctrl support, have checked for cracks and missing pins and sent them images and this video as well but they insist that this is "normal wear and tear". Your thoughts?

GSX Pro Installation. How?
I have never had any issues with GSX (installation-wise). For example, I recently installed MSFS24 and was wondering how it would play with my MSFS20 installation including shared programmes (such as GSX). It was a breeze. I launched the GSX installer and selected MSFS24 from the little drop-down menu on the left. The app did its thing. No hassle, no confusion and is now happily co-existing with both sims.

MS server issues in Aus
Interesting. I didn't use the Map Enhancement app either and my issue popped up. Should try enabling it again and see. Cheers, mate!

MS server issues in Aus
Is anyone else in this part of the world having issues with the online data? I have checked Ookla, reset the router but MS keeps dropping me offline and not loading scenery data relegating me to the bland out-of-the-box imagery. Appreciate any feedback.

Multiple Jetways coming soon!
Thanks, Chris. I've been at this game for a while and my memory hasn't gone to the dogs completely (it does misfire on occasion). However, once again I'm left wondering what happens when MSFS2028 is released. Will that be yet another backwards-incompatible sim? Ours isn't a low cost hobby especially factoring in the inevitable hardware expenses. Just the musings of one of the older members of this community. (Come to think of it, I might not be planetside when '28 rolls around!)

Multiple Jetways coming soon!
Thought as much. Funny how 2020 has been dropped like a hot potato, unlike the longevity we experienced with FSX and P3D. Oh well.
