Paul...what is/are your tower fan spec's...could you possibly be overheating either  the CPU, GPU, or memory?  That would certainly  (over time) heat accumulation inside the tower/case could be it.  When was the last time you took off all the fan shrouds and vacuumed and their blades and cages clean?  When was the last time you used a can of compressed air and special cleaning fluid to power spray the CPU, and control chip cooling fins?  I do this the minute i see accumulation of dust and dirt on either my fans, or visibly on the cooling fins of any and all tech that has them installed.  You might be hitting a threshold that destabilizes the system and perhaps has nothing at all to do with the actual software (et all) you are using.  I'd do a full clean of your interior...and THEN...I'd run P3D WITHOUT the case cover on...the same route that put you to a device hang...and if THAT runs until the final's...then put on the case cover and RUN AGAIN!. If you get a hang...then you know that even with cleaning, you are overheating (the system at that location in the room, corner (?)  near a heating source, whatever...and will have to deal with that.  If you run with the cover closed to the Final  Approach, then you need to remove dust and debris on a regular basis.   I do...and can only say that I feel it is most beneficial to the system and no tech hang-ups...

He just did a new build so Doubt it’s this. My case is very clean have had this happen twice so far

Yep, new build that was running everything else stable until 5.3 was introduced.  Still not blaming 5.3 as I made a lot of mistakes but don't think it is system related and even under stress tests CPU peaked at 79C.  I am 99% in 3DMark on DX11 and DX12 performance, ran stress test for quite a while last night, all seemed ok.

Definitely agree, a clean system with good airflow is critical!  Mine has a MSI Meg Core S360 with 5 additional fans for front to rear airflow 🙂

Ses, do you own the PMDG birds by any chance?  I think you are predominantly G/A flying correct?  If you did happen to own FSL or PMDG I'd love to know if you run into issues with them as well.  If not, completely understood!

As for me, I finally got 4.5HF3 back, good thing I kept the 256gb SSD on the side when I installed it on my M.2 drive 🙂  Right now I am takin a 160kt headwind right on the nose trying the same route I was trying in 5.3.  Fingers crossed on this one because it was actually quite disturbing how upset I got when I couldn't complete a flight...  Must have apologized to the wife at least 15 times for my frustration LOL...

Cheers.

Paul...just humor me...open up you new case, ..and run with a fan blowing in the case...see if that gets you to the finals...then,  keep the case open (no fan) ...and run again and see what happens...close your new case...and run again. See what happens.  It really sounds to me (even though you have a new install) that it is a cumulative heat issue...somewhere...something is overheating, some tech.  Just a hunch, and no, I do not own any 3rP 'study level' Heavy Metal.  The only 3rp I buy, are G.A.'s and Business class, Corporate jets.   So, I can't give you that metric.  If I do (and I do run occasionally)  a commercial flight, it is only with the ported over FSX 737, so that absolutely sucks no FPS from the play. It lets me enjoy from the FL's...but without the study level cockpit immersion that frankly doesn't interest me.  I have always been a rubbernecker VFR flyer...and in real life...my wife rarely gets the window seat...(smile....).  She's a doll for not insisting...as she knows how much I love to view the world as seen by an eagle...or something like that...

To try that FP with the case open and using or not using a fan directed at the case of course would cost you nothing...but wouldn't you be shaking your head back and forth, IF you ran countless flights, all to fruition, with the case open?  Hmmm...grab a coffee, open the case side access...and take a flight...

doesn't hurt to try that.  But as myself and some others on this forum and p3d forum have exact same issue it seems very unlikely.  Particularly when quite a few are having this issue very early on in the flight before heat can build up.  At this point I'm wondering if GSX is possibly up to no good?

My wife and I have the same window seat arrangement 🙂  She just hates me getting up every hour to go use the Lav LOL!!!

The side of the case has actually been off for 2 days now. When I really thought it was my system I did a CMOS clear, reloaded Bios defaults, removed overclock and the cover has been off since.  I don't think this is heat at all.  There is something in 5.3 HF that is clearly wreaking havoc with the Study Level Heavy Metal...  I haven't heard of a single instance where the user is not using Heavy Metal impacting the sim yet and my own experience is that the default birds F-35/F-22 even at 800kts over the ground are just fine.  Unfortunately there are a number of posts here and on the LM forums all complaining of the same issues with 5.3HF1 in conjunction with the study level heavy metal.  On the LM forums it appears some of the FSL dev team may even be running into this themselves.

I do appreciate all of the feedback and support though Ses, thank you.   Avsim has really kept my spirits up this weekend when they were severely challenged (not just by P3d) so I do appreciate yourself, Dave, Doug, Rob, Ray and everyone else who has been supportive.

Noted...and hope you get some solution worked out for how you wish to run and use P3D, Paul!  I've been flying in the Carib this morning, and have to just say, that for me now....I'm not so stressed out, whether the next MSFS update borks the sim...for now, I'll merely shrug...and fire up P3D.  So...no stress regarding any forced update. As I flew over the Carib this morning...I KNOW, that unless I change anything...this experience, visuals, performance, will never change...from one session to the next...and you know, Paul...that is an 'un-sung' PERK of such as P3D and XP11/12(coming).  You can update...or you can stay with what YOU want...  I really appreciate that now!
