January 1, 20224 yr [Note: A week or so ago, from the CS sale, I'd picked up several of their "incremental" add-on model variations, the base models for which I've owned since many years...e.g. 737-100 (the smallest 737 ever produced; 737-100 had entered service with Lufthansa in Feb. 1968, and the (more common) 737-200 had done so with United just 2 months later in Apr. of same year), 737-200 C (Combi) / F (Freighter), Boeing 777-300, and Lockheed L-1011 Freighter Expansion (subject of this post)... etc.] Now, whether it's Tu-154, HS Trident, MD-11, or L-1011...all these classic (and large) Trijets, of the yester years, are fascinating in their own characteristic ways...both look wise and engineering wise... In my previous post, I'd shown the MD-11 Freighter in two well-known liveries... (LH cargo and FedEx Cargo) ... If you browse the internet for opinions...always a dangerous (and an inconclusive) thing to do...🙂...you'll nonetheless run into many interesting comparative discussions for the Tristar and MD-11...the former, though older, was clearly ahead of its time, and the latter, a worthy successor to the DC-10, was more modern and set many new standards in terms of automated flight and avionics. Finally, regarding "aesthetics" (aka: the looks), opinions are divided, but I'll let you decide for yourself between the two...🙂...at least, from my 2 B2B posts, if not (additionally) from other sources... In this post, please find below, 10 pictures of FedEx L-1011F and Lufthansa L-1011F, both fictional (what-if) liveries, so, please excuse me, if you're not a fan of fictional, but it's one of the fringe-benefits of our virtual world, ...🙂...which I found fascinating, here, in contrasting the (earlier) Real LH MD-11F and FedEx MD-11F liveries with the current Fictional L-1011F ones... (both MD-11 and Tristar a/c been well-regarded Trijets, from two well-regarded plane makers, McDonnell Douglas and Lockheed respectively) ... Hope you enjoy these images...!! Best wishes for the New Year...!! [CS (L-1011F)] Edited January 1, 20224 yr by P_7878
January 1, 20224 yr Great photos...again! The L1011 was a uniquely shaped airplane...of course every time I see photos of one now I can't help but think about the movie the langoliers. I recall reading pilot reports that she was well ahead of her time in terms of avionics (a relative term, considering the 50+ years since she first flew!)...and she was a pleasure to fly. As a kid, I still remember seeing them flying into CYVR...way, way back in the day!
