Australian Airlines

Featured Replies

Here are some teaser shots...

I'm not sure I'm ready to publish this one just yet...not quite happy with the tail at the moment...I want to see if I can clean it up a little more. Also quick flight to check out my new Orbx Cityscape Sydney scenery.

A little history on this one...

Australian Airlines was founded in 2002 as an all economy brand of Qantas, operating a fleet of five B767-300ER's that were transferred from Qantas' existing fleet. The Australian Airlines namesake was actually re-purposed from TAA (Trans Australia Airlines) which Qantas acquired in 1992.

The Australian Airlines B767 aircraft flew both domestic and international routes, with a primary focus on serving Japanese markets when the airline first commenced operations.

Though a relatively short lived airline, the brand was discontinued in 2006 as Qantas elected to focus on, and consolidate, their relatively new Jetstar brand as a competitor to Virgin Blue/Virgin Australia.

The five Australian Airlines aircraft were subsequently returned to Qantas livery following their withdrawal from service as an independent leisure brand.

This particular airframe continues to fly today...delivering little brown boxes for Amazon (N569AZ) having just completed a freighter conversion within the last 2 months.

Prior to Air Transport International taking delivery of this airframe, she also wore the Westjet livery (C-FOGT), as one of four aircraft acquired from Qantas when the B767 fleet were retired by Qantas in 2014. For Westjet, the newly acquired B767 fleet was a "stop-gap" solution for their entry into international long haul as they awaited delivery of their new B787 Dreamliner fleet.

While Australian Airlines may be a distant memory, fortunately for us, this colorful Australian Airlines B767-300ER VH-OGI livery will continue to live on in the world of flight simulation!

Hope you enjoy the photos!

As the locals say for this liveries' region....."Good on ya' mate!" 🙂

I think you should take a break, throw some shrimp on the barbie, and down a few "bee-ayas" ....Foster's of course. 🙂 If you're not married, you could invite a few shila's over to join you. Hehe.  Crikey!

Note: Stay away from the Vegimite....horrible stuff! 🤣 (yes I've tasted it....yeeeech)

Thanks Steve!

Your Aussie pronunciation is pretty good (or you've seen too many re-runs of Crocodile Dundee)! My current next door neighbor (living here in South Louisiana) is from Australia. Don't drink much beer anymore...my time living in Scotland has given me a taste for a nice highlands single malt. Although I do recall a "Foster's Story" back in my university days...one time Foster's delivered a free beer truck to the Student Union Building...like Uni students really needed help to become alcoholics...right at the time of mid-terms as I recall...vaguely!

I have several southern Pacific (and Island) sceneries, some for Japan and some for China. I thought this livery was really cool looking. Really should spend more time simming that part of the World (hence the earlier ANZ repaint and this one!). Sadly, haven't made it there yet in real life...my furthest was a memorable trip to French Polynesia...a lot of Kiwis on vacation there...and boy, can they party hard!

Lastly, your comments always seem to leave a song in my head for the day...now it's Men At Work - Down Under! 😀

Thanks for the comments!

So I'm not the only one with the song stuck in my head now!

Glad I didn't rush this one to publish. Working from original logos, changing colors and re-sizing them always makes them look different (blurry). This morning, I spent a couple of hours re-sizing then re-doing the tail logo from scratch...the lines will be much more "crisp" on the aircraft. Back to the drawing board...shoulda done it right the first time!

The previous logo:

And the new logo:

The end result will look so much better.
