January 18, 20224 yr Author Moderator Hi Bert, What possessed Carenado to break with tradition and link the a/p to the FMC. This makes it highly unlikely I’ll buy it because even with your mod there’s no guarantee it would give me what I want. Thanks for the offer but it looks like I’ll be sticking with the Xtreme Prototypes Lear 25. Ray (Cheshire, England). Bert, could you do me a favour please. Create a flight plan in P3D. It just need 2 or 3 waypoints. Take off and engage the autopilot. Assuming there’s a GPS/NAV option on the panel engage GPS and see if the plane follows the route. I have the GoFlight MCP Pro which works for the PMDG737 using LNAV and VNAV mode but it also has a VOR / LOC button which when selected in GPS mode will follow the flight plan. Does the Phenom have GPS/NAV and VOR / LOC buttons? Ray (Cheshire, England). January 18, 20224 yr Author Moderator Bert, I’ve just looked at a closeup of the autopilot panel on the Phenom and there’s a NAV option. I use that option on the Vertx DA62 which also has a G1000 Panel. If the logic is the same then engaging NAV mode for your test flight should mean the autopilot follows the waypoints in the P3D plan. Fingers crossed. Ray (Cheshire, England). Does the Phenom have GPS/NAV and VOR / LOC buttons? I'll have a look, but understand that I modified the autopilot and PFD to play nice with the GTN. Out of the box: The G1000 PFD CDI button switches between VOR1, VOR2, and GPS1. The autopilot has NAV and APR buttons, as expected. In PFD GPS1 mode, the autopilot follows the P3D flightplan in NAV mode. Whether your GoFlight buttons work, I do not know. Whether you can modify the flightplan externally and still have it work, I do not know. You will have to test it yourself to know for sure. It is a nice plane, though.. 🙂 Edited January 18, 20224 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
January 18, 20224 yr Author Moderator Bert, thanks for that. For a $50 plane I wouldn’t expect Carenado to design a non-standard autopilot. My guess is it uses the default autopilot modes including VOR / LOC mode. 3 minutes ago, Bert Pieke said: In PFD GPS mode, the autopilot follows the P3D flightplan in NAV mode. That’s what I’m expecting. It uses the default autopilot mode. So in VOR / LOC mode on the PMDG MCP with NAV engaged on the Phenom it flies the P3D flight plan as you confirm. EFB can modify a P3D flight plan when airborne. If it does it for the Vertx DA62, Xtreme Prototypes Lear 25 and the Carenado PC12 so it’s a reasonable assumption it’ll do it for the Phenom too. Thanks, you’ve been very helpful. I’ll buy it tomorrow and I’m 85% sure it’ll be fine. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 18, 20224 yr Author Moderator Thanks Bert, that looks like a carbon copy of the Vertx DA62 unit. If you press the CDI option does it cycle through NAV1 and GPS modes? There’s a third one which I’ve forgotten. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 19, 20224 yr Author Moderator Just now, Bert Pieke said: It cycles through VOR1, VOR2, GPS1. I’ll check on the Vertx tomorrow but it sounds the same. I read through several posts in this sub forum and one chap became so exasperated by trying to enter a plan using the supplied software he gave up and said Aivlasoft’s EFB solved his problems. Given it’s also a pain entering a plan in the Vertx it sounds like they’re identical in how they operate. Ray (Cheshire, England). January 19, 20224 yr Author Moderator A search of the Aivlasoft forum revealed this post which confirms the Navigraph Addon Pack does mess up the default autopilot operation. https://forum.aivlasoft.com/topic/2828-carenado-extension-pack-and-efb/#comment-17067 Just purchased.
