Opinions on Phenom with P3D v5

I fully appreciate the Carenado aircraft are not state of the art regarding the flight model but they’re reasonable enough if the PC-12 is anything to go by.

I have a Learjet 25 from Extreme Prototypes but the lights have a huge impact on performance. In all other respects it a nice enough aircraft bar the 1970s cockpit.

I’m considering this Phenom as I love the G1000 display and that was the main reason I bought the Vertx DA-62.

But that’s a pretty slow aircraft so what I’m looking for is the VC of the Vertx with the speed of the Lear.

I have Aivlasoft’s EFB from which I can generate flight plans so the lack of recent Nav data in the Carenado isn’t a problem. My Navigraph subscription plus accessing another site for default VORs, NDBs etc means the nav data is fine in P3D.

Anything that I should be aware of?

63 views and no one has any advice? Is no one flying Carenado aircraft in P3D any longer? That would be astonishing.

Hi Roberto, how do you find the flight model? I'm happy about the navigation data.

Hi Ray,

I have had the Phenom 300 for sometime and over-all  I enjoy it as a biz-jet. It works fine in the latest version of P3D 5.3 even though the cockpit is a little dark in my opinion (not Carenado's fault). I do not have any real world experience with this aircraft so I cannot comment on how accurate the flight model is. In my opinion, the flight model seems to be pretty good. The only "buyer beware" aspect is the glass cockpit. There seemed to be quite a few complaints about Carenado's glass cockpit aircraft and their rendition of the FMS. For that reason I cannot comment on the G1000 Prodigy "stock" system as I have the Flight1 GTN 750 mod installed that was available I believe by Bert Pieke. For me that mod makes this aircraft very enjoyable.

Hope this helps and also hope you will get some more responses that will better inform you.

@raymie, many thanks for your feedback. The flight model on the PC-12 seems reasonable so hopefully the same applies to this aircraft.

I won’t be using the FMS as Aivlasoft’s EFB can inject a flight plan into P3D which is then picked up by the Carenado. Well it works that way for the PC12 so I imagine it will be the same for the Phenom.

If anyone is able to confirm that it would be appreciated.

You're Welcome. I also have the PC-12 and enjoy it as well. Bert Pieke teamed up with another individual to also make several mods for the PC-12.

Hi Ray,

With Bert's mods, I think this is one of the best business jets from Carenado right now. Very pleasure to fly it with close to life performance. I think that the G1000 avionics are one of the best working avionics setup. You can also try Jorge Rexach's mods for a more complete suite of real life performance and avionics parameters include in the G1000. Tested in FSX SE but I think it should work with P3D v5.3.

Roberto

@Ralvarez232, are those for the GTN750 unit? I've searched the web and this is the only discussion I've found.

I have no plans to buy that unit as Aivlasoft's EFB does all I need.

As I said earlier I have no plans to buy the GTN750 unit. I run Aivlasoft’s EFB on a separate computer that shows a moving map plus up to date AIRAC data with SIDS and STARs.

Ray,

The Phenom 300 is a great looking aircraft...typical of Carenado. I haven't flown it in P3D v5...flew it sporadically in V4.

The Navigraph expansion plays havoc with the G1000...inputs for flight plan are inconsistent...it just became too much of a hassle to enter a flight plan (assuming it would work). I also had the synthetic vision expansion...it was nice, but didn't overcome the major obstacle of the flaky/inconsistent flight plan input.

It's too bad...it's a nice looking aircraft...just too unpredictable.

Rob, I’m assuming the Phenom reads a standard flight plan in P3D. That’s certainly the case for the PC-12. Now that flight plan can be loaded in several different ways:-

  • Via Navigation - Flight plan
  • Via ASP3D
  • Enabling the option in FSUIPC to show “Load Flight plan” menu item under Options
  • Or via Aivlasoft’s EFB.

Its the last one I’ll be using rather than any method provided by Carenado in the G1000.

I also have the Vertx DA-62 which has a fully functioning G1000 unit and I wouldn’t go near loading a plan via that as the process is so laborious. EFB injects the plan into P3D in the same way and it’s fine.

The beauty of the Aivlasoft method is the plan can be modified in flight making it totally flexible and that includes STARs.

It seems this aircraft’s only weakness is the loading of a flight plan. If that can be achieved externally it seems I’m ready to buy it.

This is a key reason why I am so thankful for the GTN 750 mod as it make this aircraft flyable. Without some sort of modification I would not have initially purchased a Carenado glass cockpit aircraft. Too many complaints regarding Carenado's rendition of the FMS and their navgraph. I did have an enjoyable flight earlier today with the Phenom 300..
