May 14, 200719 yr Guys, I'm looking into getting some mesh for FSX and want your opinion on which of these products is better. They both look good from what I've seen but in terms of US coverage, which has the advantage? You can provide some shots if you're so inclined.:-) Some shots of the mountains near Boise, Idaho would be much appreciated.
May 14, 200719 yr No shots, but FS Genesis is going to be superior to FS Global for United States coverage. In their notes, I believe FS Global 2008 even indicates that their N. American coverage is essentially equivilant to the default N. American mesh (38m), while the FS Genesis provides much improved resolutions (10m vs. 38m) in the United States. Of course, this FS Genesis package doesn't include improvements to other continents, like FS Global does.If North American flying is your focus, FS Genesis is DEFINATELY the package to get.

May 14, 200719 yr You've linked to the global version of FS Genesis, but there is no North American coverage in that package. The map image on the page highlights the covered areas. You would need to also purchase the North American package I referenced in addition to this package to get true global coverage, linked here...http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchan...tegory_Code=FSX-GG
May 14, 200719 yr I am a little late onto this topic, but there is another option: USA Extreme Landscapes V2 from Abacus. I am writing a review for it, and as I use a lot of words and write at the speed of bureaucracy, it will be a while before the review gets posted. USA Extreme Landscapes gives a terrain mesh for North America only, with the US getting the best resolution, similar to FSGenesis. Jeff ShylukAvsim Product Reviewer
May 14, 200719 yr Personally I prefer FS Genesis as my main mesh - as much for the service over the years as anything else. They have been very good about resolving errors in the source data.FSX may not quite be up to FS2004 standards everywhere yet, but it will come as Justin works around the world. That said, there will be mesh for some areas which is better than FS Genesis. A good mesh for a limited area with tweaks and adjustments based on local knowlege can beat a global product of the FS Gensis quality. But I will continue to use FS Genesis as my base and will only use an alternate when it is proven to be better.
May 14, 200719 yr That's an excellent question. I have FSGenesis Mesh and I'm not sure that I'm set up optimally. It looks great but maybe it could look even better with different settings.FLMach1
May 17, 200719 yr Commercial Member Hi Jeff,It's not only similar -- it's the same thing in a different package, distributed to brick and mortar stores worldwide with Abacus branding.:-)-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
May 17, 200719 yr Sorry for being OT here. What is the difference between mesh, landclass and Xclass?Cheers,Confused Newbie
May 17, 200719 yr Commercial Member HI Alex,Terrain mesh is the shape of the ground: valleys, hills, ravines, plains, mountains, etc. Landclass is the depiction of land classification, i.e., the textures on that shape such as farmland, urban, suburban, forests, swamps, grassland, etc.Hope this helps-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
