Sticking with P3DV5 even with the developers leaving

Featured Replies

I am satisfied enough with my current P3Dv4 flight simulation experience that I do not need to look for anything better. That will almost certainly change in the future, but the future is not now

About Flytampa. I don’t trust hearsay that start urban legends so you’d better quote FT to be credible.

Or are you sooo satisfied with v5 (and v4 hey Christopher) that you can’t imagine anything better 😉 ?

For airliner flying P3D is far, far ahead of MSFS. I'd love for MSFS to become the flight sim it promises to be, but it currently falls short in a number of key ways.

Everyone is now entrenched in their view. Mine is that while P3D isn't as visually appealing, nor as easy to run on older hardware as MSFS, I have gotten my P3D to a place where it looks really good, performance is excellent and it's just more enjoyable than an equivalent flight in MSFS is.

That may change as MSFS matures and more high quality airliners appear. Yet, right now, if developers keep producing good content for P3D, I will be helping to keep the cash coming through their doors.

Which is very respectable Christopher. But then, do not be surprised when the developers leave the market because the poor devils need to eat now, not in the future 🤣

Imho I think that when developers want to make the most money they will try making a product work on multiple platforms.

The MSFS market is that full of products and there are developers I have never heard of. And beside good quality Addons there are also a lot of low quality Addons.

My Prosim ac flies perfectly in P3D but also really good in MSFS (preview version). Because of the pr terrain with custom AG and all this POIs I prefer the outside world of MSFS over P3D.I still have P3D installed though.

I am hoping that one day P3D will have the possibility to use streaming pr terrain too. Many professional flightschool are using it. Remember TileProxy …

Myself in P3D I use PR terrain only but todays standard is much higher ( except for Orbx TE series ).

We’ll see what P3D will bring for us in the future. And if it is appealing enough for 3rd party developers to make new Addons and have good sales…

1/ Thanks for the reference. It is worth quoting this post.

The prices were initially set low by other devs believing sales would be FAR greater than fsx/p3d/xplane. It didn't turn out that way but the prices sort of stuck.

Its more work now if anything. We have PBR texturing and cpu power for more detailed modelling.
However, the MSFS SDK is the best of the bunch (when it works

He says that the volume was not FAR (emphasis by him) greater not it was not greater. Has the reduction of price brought a reduction of profit because the volume was less than expected is not known. And this is the bottom line.

Anyway, always difficult to set a price on a new market.  Again I am not surprised, see my post. They will adapt. They are stuck for the existing products, not for the new ones.  And they can always release a V2 with new stuf at an increased price !

2/ Not everyone is entrenched in their view. Fortunately ! What you say is pretty reasonable and balanced. And I try to be the same. Both sims have pros and cons which appeal to different ways of simming.  Instead shooting the other sims, we’d better try to push our sim of preference in the right direction. As we know both that the MSFS forum is pretty lively on the matter 😂

I am quite prepar3d to accept tumbleweed syndrome in the P3D market, although there are a handful of products that I am hoping to purchase at some point this year...

  • MK Studios EICK Cork
  • RD Presets EHRD Rotterdam (I am hoping that this is getting a big upgrade after consumer criticism of the texture quality and lack of 3D clutter)
  • ORBx LGKO Kos (available now, but I need to make sure that I can download good quality freeware photoscenery of the surrounding islands)

See them tumbling down
Pledging their love to the ground
Lonely but free I'll be found
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds
