There was a Logitech wireless stick, the Freedom 2.4. I don´t know if it's still in production. It's very similar to the Extreme 3D Pro in functionality.

I have one. Had it for years. Uses three AA batteries in it's base, and a USB receiver thing plugged into a USB on the PC. Works great. You might find one on E Bay.

I don't see why it couldn't be done...  Almost all of my wheels on my racing sim are interchangeable and wireless connectivity to the wheel base.  It allows for an F1 style wheel vs a typical round wheel dependent upon what type of car you are driving.  Obviously latency and input isn't an issue but cost is 🙂   Wheel base is $1,000 and each wheel can be another $500+ so it's not cheap!!  A good FFB base with wheel setup can easily run a few thousand $$$

No reason you couldn't do the same with a Yoke Base and interchangeable handles.  Would actually be really cool...

For those where length is a problem I have a laptop connected to my TV in the lounge and the joystick lead is just too short to connect to it when I sit in my arm chair. I thought about wireless controllers and the Freedom joystick (I had one back in the day) but in the end I got a USB cable extension from an electronics store. I can now play games in total comfort without repositioning the laptop etc.
