After the MSFS fiasco reverting to static weather and animated bitmap Cu only clouds I’m having high hopes for a realistic weather simulation here. While I am also interested in how XP12 will look weather wise, and placing big expectations in the sim, I totally discord with your wrong assessment of MFS weather. MFS doesn't have the perfect solution for weather rendering and blending between model and observation data but it surely does a very acceptable job ! Regarding X-Plane, the biggest problem has always been the lack of a good interface offering 3pds a better control over weather parameters. In the last version Laminar also introduced a very unrealistic "haze" and there are still problems of sudden cloud and visibility changes, like from IMC to VMC and the way arround, that can really ruin an otherwise acceptable experience, specially when great add-ons like ASXP and in particular Enhanced cloudScapes (*) are used. From what I heard and read it appears that XP12 is bringing a worth of good updates to weather, so let's wait for the best... (*) never tried xEnviro, so I can't talk about it... FYI, not sure where you get your info from, but this is completely incorrect. Not static weather and no bitmaps are being used. Still volumetric and using the same type of dynamic system XP12 is building up to. Both are using the same process, devil (as always) will be in the details of how each tackles the tricky problem of blending Metar data with a predictive model for the remaining 99% of the atmosphere that's not covered by the Metar reports. So far the videos LR have posted look promising, I'm watching with interest. Edited April 6, 20224 yr by VFXSimmer
