February 17, 20224 yr Hi everyone, First time posting here in years. Used to be an avid simmer during FSX days but then started my RW training and now fly corporate. I thought I'd delve back into the sim world and buy a new desktop which arrived two days ago. I immediately went and bought the deluxe MSFS Steam version and have been painstakingly going through the install process ever since. I am 35 GB into the install process but quite often, the MSFS installer will crash and then I'll have to open it up again to which it tells me that it crashed unexpectedly and this could be due to "3rd party developer addons", even though it is a new install.... and I should try installing in "Safe Mode" or "Normal Mode". Anyway, I've been hunting for answers to this but surprisingly, don't seem to be able to find much. More so people having CTDs when they try to play the sim. If anyone has any advice on whether this is normal, or a workaround, i'd really appreciate it. Maybe I'll even throw in a free 15 min ride in a Piaggio P180 lol. Thanks!
February 18, 20224 yr For some people it helps greatly to turn down their internet speed, i.e. reduce the Mbps by putting on a cap at the online webpage that is their internet default gateway URL. For my particular brand of router that URL is http://192.168.0.1/ From command prompt type ipconfig to find the correct URL on any computer for their router which will be similar to the above. Then drill down the menu and reduce connection speed cap. Sometimes this will allow the game to fully download. For others problems, this thread might help: 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
February 18, 20224 yr Author What kind of speed do you recommend? Our internet is capped at 50 download but when downloading MSFS, it drops considerably to about 10-15.
February 18, 20224 yr Run the install until it crashes and then look in the Windows application event log. If you see any red stop sign entries, highlight the 1st one (the log is newest to oldest going top to bottom) and post a screen shot. It should give you a general idea of what the heck is going on. i9-10850K, ASUS TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI), 32GB G.SKILL DDR4-3603 / PC4-28800, GIGABYTE RTX5080 16GB WF OC 3 FAN running 3440x1440
February 18, 20224 yr Since it is a brand new desktop, I'd make sure that Windows is fully up to date, as well as all drivers are up to date, particularly chipset drivers. Since you do not yet have any 3rd party addons, restart in normal mode. ...jim ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.

I have a 200 mps connection. I'll try this. Thanks for all your help Bill W Edited February 18, 20224 yr by BillW

Everything else is up to date. Good thoughts though. Thanks!
