February 24, 20224 yr My current system is CPU Haswell 4770K @4.5 GHz RAM 16 Gb 2200MHz Video NVIDIA 2070 Super used with a HP Reverb G2 VR set If I keep the video card and upgrade the system how much improvement to expect mainly for MSFS but also XP P3D5 DCS ? One thing that I find strange is that in MSFS I see the GPU being a solid line at 100% which is not the case in other sims or games. Could I actually be GPU bound in my current system meaning an CPU upgrade would not make much difference ? Do you also see this GPU load on your system ? Has anyone upgraded from haswell with a 2070 Super ?
February 24, 20224 yr Hi I recently answered a similar question from someone else on this forum. I had an i5 4690k with GTX1080 TI 11Gb GPU, and 32Gb of DDR3 RAM. Like you, I was getting nearly 100% CPU usage with P3D and later MSFS, with lower usage on the GPU. I run MSFS at 1440p on a 27 in GSync monitor. Recently I had to upgrade to a new motherboard and CPU: an i7 11700k in my case, Z590 motherboard, 32Gb of DDR4 RAM and my existing SSDs now plugged directly into the motherboard. Still retained the GTX 1080 Ti. My CPU usage also at 1440p has now dropped to 20-30% in MSFS, but the GPU is now sometimes struggling to keep up at 95-98%. I'd like to say this has dismissed stutters altogether - not quite, but I am testing the SU8 beta and performance is good, stutters are mostly pretty much a thing of the past. In brief, my settings are all HIGH to ULTRA; Object LOD 150 and Terrain LOD 300. I should note that I transferred my MSFS SSD from my old PC to my new one. It worked straight out of the box with no reinstalls needed. Hope this helps.
February 24, 20224 yr I upgraded from a Haswell and a 1080TI which ran MSFS pretty good in 4K resolution to a 11900k and 3080 video card. My conclusion is Things are faster and rendering is great. I don't Know what the 2070 can do but for 4k you need a better card for performance. This is what I get now in 4K. At 100% render scale in most areas, I get in the mid 40s if kick up the render scaling to 110 my frames drop to the Mid-thirties. I have frames locked at 30 in the sim and it hardly ever fluctuate. If you're running in 1080 or 1440 resolution you should see a big difference in performance. I have zero clue what VR headsets can do. If MSFS shows 100% GPU load most of the time as you say, then yes upgrading your CPU will not make any significant difference with this particular title. 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
