what to do, what to do

okay, I have a problem. I had a great running sim before the patch thanks to everyones help and a bunch of tweaks. I was able to have traffic 2005, world of ai planes and a bunch of add ons from cloud 9 and scenery tech. I unistalled my fsx but didn't uninstall traffic 2005 or world of ai. But the others I took out. I installed the patch with no problem then I did a defrag and started the sim up again. My traffic 2005 and world of ai were already in. Well as you all have been saying, my frames also went down and my scenery became a blurried mess. I beleive now that I was able to run the sim better pre patch because of those tweaks. I am now faced with the dellema of uninstalling every darn thing I have installed and starting out from the basic. This is a lot of work and not sure if it is needed. I have all my addons back but not sure if they are keeping my performance down. I am afraid of installing the tweaks again because I'm sure wonderful products will come along that will make things better (for a price) and I am pretty sure those will mess with my settings if I have them tweaked all over the place. I'm sure others are having the same issues so maybe any advice will help them as well. So the questions remains should I or shouldn't I start everything all over again. By the way, we shouldn't have to do any tweaking with this patch, isn't that what the patch was supposed to do? Thank you guys

As painful as it may seem, uninstall FSX and all addons, then reinstall FSX, then SP1 then SP1 compatible addons. It will be less painful overall!Gary

>By the way, we shouldn't have to do any tweaking>with this patch, isn't that what the patch was supposed to do?That so very naive... FS has always required "tweaking" to get running well! There's simply too many possible combinations of hardware and user's unique software installations to have a "one size fits all" that's more than a dumbed-down arcade game.

"I am now faced with the dilemma of uninstalling every darn thing I have installed and starting out from the basic. This is a lot of work and not sure if it is needed."Yup, that's the only way I got all the benefits of SP1 on my rig.Removed every single trace of my previous FSX installation and verified that, by using 'jv16 PowerTools' which can be found here http://www.macecraft.com/home/ Then defragged the separate HDD that FSX was to be re-installed on. Fired up my rig, disconnected it from the Internet, shut down my Anti-virus, Windows Defender and my UPS monitoring application and proceeded with the fresh install. After re-installing FSX, I then defragged it before installing SP1.FSX and my system 'Page/Swap Files are now installed in separate partitions on a different HDD from the Win XP Pro O/S HDD, which has no 'Page/Swap Files' on it at all. WINDOWS seems to be much more crisp and nippy when the 'Page/Swap Files' are on a separate HDD, for further mind expanding Win XP stuff that got my rig in to 'Tip-Top' form for FSX, I downloaded the PDF from this brilliant young man at:- http://www.tweakguides.com/To conclude, may I say; Very well done to Phil Taylor and his brilliant team at ACES, this patch is not the be-all and end-all, but it certainly has made my FSX fly like a bird!!! Well done guys.

Form, is but the manifestation of inner contentment.

You could also trying unistalling the patch and then doing a "Repair" of the original FSX install from the install setup screen. Then trying an install of SP1. This approach worked fine for me.Bill's correct about tuning. MS can tune their product but they cannot tune your environment. Get yourself a good install of FSX and SP1 and if you have performance issues read this forum scrupulously the answers will come from advice and tips some of which may help your particular installation and it will get better and better.Alternatively you can either stick with FSX vanilla or FS9 for evermore. You're call but remember "No guts, no glory!" John

Thank you to all those that helped. I ended up uninstalling everything and starting with a new install. I haven't notice much of a change but I'm ready for post sp1 add ons. I can't get the traffic view board to install. It doesn't work anyway but I had it working before and forgot what hoops I had to jump through to get it. I posted on another thread about this but no help yet. Thank you
