  1. :( Your feelings Ray, are also being echoed in Richards thread here http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=243527 It truly is amazing, just how much this one program/application from Microsoft, has created such a dedicated and discerning following from so many people around the globe. :(
  2. "FSX and FS9 are here for us for a number of years yet," :( Well said Tom, and with AVSIM and its ever growing Library, FSX has an awesome companion too. :(

:( Richard, that is one of the most moving posts I've ever read on any forum. Very well done mate, and I'm sure you will have started a thread that many fellow simmers can tell us theirfond memories too. Unfortunately, my career pressures kept me away from the emerging computer world, but once things slowed down in 1999, I got the chance to build my first PC, which was built purely to run MSFS 2000. Even with its inherent shortcomings, I was hooked and have enjoyed every FS rendition since. FSX still has a couple of little creases in it, but now that the add-on developers have had the fear of the impending arrival of FS11 removed by Microsoft, at least for the foreseeable future, I'm pretty sure we are all going to start having a great deal more fun with FSX, than we have been able to experience so far. :(
  4. :( Spoken like a true Captain, Geoff :(

:( Dennis, try this link here http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimul...oduct_info.html for best explanation. :(
  6. :( That Google slip-up gave me the chance to discover the existence of an amazing alternative search engine:- http://www.dogpile.com :(

Had the same access problems to the 'Forums' from the Avsim Main/Front page over the past week-end Geoff, but everything has been fine since Mon 26th Australian time.
  8. Very well said Nick, couldn't agree with you more.In my experience since AD1998, none of my versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator, have ever worked properly on any operating system, other than Microsoft Windows. In fact, MS Flight Simulator has been the only 'Criteria' I have ever used when upgrading my PC operating systems. My belief being that if an OS can make MSFS run satisfactory, then any other type of application installed thereafter will present no serious challenges to the OS. Thankfully too, there always seems to be an awesome MS familiar 'Guru' such as yourself Nick, that selflessly offers to help us folk put things right should a FS version go a bit peculiar. But since Microsoft launched XP, and during all the Service Pack renditions of SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4(Vista) and the forthcoming SP5(Windows7) I don't know of any other operating system that will run MS Flight Simulator better than the one it was designed for anyway, e.g. these various incarnations of Microsoft XP Pro! The decision to 'Terminate' any future developments of Microsoft Flight Simulator appears to me, to be a double edged sword. In one direction, it has ruthlessly hurt those geniuses who brought FSX to its present level, but in the other direction, it has severed the bonds that were vexing third party developers future investment plans, particularly in view of the anticipated arrival of a re-worked FSX in the form of FS-11 and all its attendant quirks/benefits. Now that Microsoft have made it painfully clear that FSX is going to stay, as is, for quite some time to come, perhaps now all the TPD geniuses who have made FSX the 'Beauty' that it is today, will make FSX the 'Must Have' simulator for all of those, who have yet to appreciate the awesome talents that make this hobby of ours, so utterly exiting, pleasurable and exquisitely unique. :(
  9. :( Yes I'll second that Geof, it wasn't until I browsed around all the 85+ Categories, Library and not counting all the sub-categories and threads that are going on in the background, that one starts to realise that AVSIM is really a very remarkable website indeed, what a fantastic job Tom and your team too.
  10. Absolutely awesome Simpit,And doing all the 'Feathering' while concentrating on what appeared to be a very rapid decent too. Many thanks for the link.

My feelings for them too Bob.
  12. Eaglesoft Twin Comanche!?You will be very hard pushed to find a better FSX model than this little diamond. This hanger produces amazing quality products and at very, very good prices too!You will need to be reminded that FSX has default planes of its own, once you you have taken the Twin Comanche up a couple of times.
  13. >Xplane is impressive in many areas.>>Just a question->"It's weather is downloaded in real-time every one minute as I>have it set for... ">>The real world data that pilots rely on is updated once an>hour-usually about 5 minutes before the hour, and a possible>special observation if one occurs.>>What is the advantage of updating it every minute since the>real world data updates only once an hour-again usually at 5>minutes or so before the hour? Does Xplane now get better>weather data than real pilots have access to?>>Does it still default the visiblity at 20 miles? Fsx runs a>lot better at that setting also.>>I have found the weather in fsx extremely realistic-especially>with add ins like fex,asx:>http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=276597&page=2>>I do check in on xplane every once in a while and usually>purchase it every couple years though.:-)>>>>>>>>Geofa>My blog:>http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/Hi Geoff,Reading through this reply of yours, I spotted a possible 'Tweak' that I would like to copy from you, if you could tell me please how it is done. I am aware of the 'Cloud Draw Distance' one, but not this visiblity setting :- >Does it still default the visiblity at 20 miles? Fsx runs a>lot better at that setting also. Can't seem to find it in the fsx-CFG file or in the UI panels :-hmmmYour guidance, as always, would be much appreciated.

  16. "avsim hasn't even posted the 'news' on the front page yet ..."Yes Scoob, very strange indeed that front page omission. No doubt there is an explanation en-route.
  17. Not wishing to stray OT Geoff, but what has happened to the signature shot of the smiling happy Captain, at the helm of his beloved Baron!?
  18. :-eek Yes, my apologies to Richie as well Don and Bill, for omitting to mention him from this awesome joint project. :-beerchug
  19. Here's something else that might be worth a try too Don,Click on the 'Fuel And Payload' button on the top left of the aircraft preview window. Try re-setting your fuel quantity to say; 60% and in the 'Payload' section, just have yourself weighing in at say 10 stone = 140 pounds, no co-pilot = 0, no passengers = 0 and baggage at 50 pounds = nice CoG.One notch 'UP' of pitch and one notch 'Down' of flaps, brakes on until 2000 RPM is reached, brakes off and she will take you up nicely. This little aeroplane of Bills' is a beautiful model and is my favourite for bush flying here in Queensland, it never fails on the grass runway at Caboolture (you need Ozx addon for that airfield) where I park it up.DaveVH-DBWBrisbaneAUSTRALIA
  20. >Not so brilliant once you actually find it, though...:-erks I guess apologies are in order then greggerm.DaveVH-DBWBrisbaneAUSTRALIA
  21. :-eek :-lol :-lol :-lol :-lol :-lol Brilliant Kevin!DaveVH-DBWBrisbaneAUSTRALIA
  22. Two possibilities Fred,Try reducing the 'Brake Left Axis' 'Sensitivity' and increasing 'Null Zone' in FSX-Settings-Controls-Calibration menu first. Use the 'Controller Type' drop-down menu, to change from Yoke to Pedals. If that adjustment does not cure your problem, you may have to resort to altering the physical positioning of the potentiometer (Poti) shaft located under the grey foot plate, that is secured by those 6 black 'Phillips' screws that you can see when looking down on to the pedals. This requires a little dexterity and working out, but the idea is to make the 'Poti' shaft start to rotate one notch later than it does now, when you start to press the pedal down. Once you have done this to the left pedal, BE SURE TO DO THE SAME TO THE RIGHT PEDAL.When all is back together, do another re-calibration procedure and hopefully all will be well. Otherwise it might mean a trip down to your local electronics store for a replacement potentiometer.Dave, VH-DBWBrisbane.Australia.
  23. >hi John.....>>>i could not agree with you more...>now that iv met avsim..... and a Big Hello and Thank you for>letting me into the fourm!...>>sorry to come in on bad term's... just wanted to get some>advise... but from what i have recived from avsim and the>fourms im able to make the right choice in paying for a>aircraft...>>>Russ. UK4DT L0(>>Many thanks for the 'Heads Up' Russ, I'm sure that the advice you have seen so far, will take some of the sting out of your pain too.But before you buy FS products again, take a peek into the AVSIM Library, you will be very pleasantly surprised as to what you can find in there. And like a previous poster mentioned too, always come to AVSIM and check out the reviews. Those that write them; have ALL cylinders delivering FULL horsepower ;-) which will make your choices so much easier and hopefully pain free too.Dave.Brisbane.

When I posted the photo link on here, I wondered who would spot those and pose the question that I forgot to put in the post with it. I thought maybe Dave on the Riviera was going to give us a clue when he said that the photo had been on here many times before, but no. So they still remain a mystery until a r/w A-380 pilot pops into the chat room here to give us the answer. Are they some kind of 'Palm Rest' do you think?
  25. >But I want my 727!!!!>It was like Deja vu. I spent 4 minutes trying to shut up the>"Stabilisor" warning.
