March 7, 20224 yr We will depart from Aviano (LIPA) in the northeast of Italy. Only 30 miles southwest is Istrana (LIPS), our first landing. We continue west and land at Ghedi (LIPL). About 40 miles southwest is Piacenza (LIMS), the now-closed Italian Air Force base. Now we have a longer leg. We head south along the coast and land at Grosseto (LIRS). Depending on our progress and on which airplanes are chosen, we may have to skip the next landing at Gioia del Colle (LIBV) and head directly to Grazzanise (LIRM), the Air Base just north of Naples. From here it is a long leg (256 miles) to Decimomannu (LIED), the large NATO training base on the island of Sardinia. Time permitting we will fly over Capo Frasca, the air-to-ground range close to Decimomannu. Documentation: Flight plan and pilots guide Aircraft: It is a very long flight (960 miles, but with a good opportunity to save miles and time enroute if required). We want something fast, the F-18, the TF-104G, or any other fast jet would be ok. There are some civilian aircraft available, like the CJ4 or the Longitude, that are fast enough, especially during the longer legs when we can climb to higher flight levels. I will be in the TF-104G, please fly what you like. Scenery: This addon is a demo of a coastline correction, but it also includes a good improvement for Grosseto: PROJECT COASTLINE TUSCANY + GROSSETO AIRPORT (LIRS) v1.5 » Microsoft Flight Simulator I recommend to use LIRS from the package. Please set your simulator for a 9 AM departure. We try real weather. March 7, 20224 yr Look forward to this flight. Should be informative, interesting, and fun. And thanks for the video links. The last piece, flying the pattern at Decimomannu, is great. The film's scenery is at least as good as the Asobo-Blackshark rendition, though I cannot say if it is as good as X-Plane. 😉 --Mike MacKuen
