May 22, 200719 yr First of all, thanks Holger for the great tip about the Norwegian textures. Norway looks awesome now! What a difference!!!Secondly, I made a decision. I completely changed my view on what a perfect sim should look like. Sometimes you have something in your mind which you want to see on screen. The problem is that a lot of what you want is possible, but at what cost...! So I changed my settings totally. Main difference: autogen at sparse. At first I decided to turn it off totally, but that's a bit too much... Now the sparse autogen gives some nice details to otherwise completely rounded mountain textures. Underneath the autogen appears to be some pretty nice textures (well, in Norway now anyway) which have a better 3D-look than I thought. I was quite surprised...I also turned of all traffic apart from a few GA and a few cars. Clouds went a notch down. Mesh complexity is turned up to 100, mesh res to 10 and texture res to 60 cm. Thanks to all this changes water has gone from high 1x to high 2x (anyone knows what the difference is betweet high 2x and max 2x...?) which looks a lot better (I love to see the reflection of the green mountainsides in those lakes!)All in all I got a steady fps around Bergen of... 40. Sometimes 50. (Didn't test any higher.) But I set the max fps to 35 now, to (hopefully) save some resources for loading textures a bit quicker. Things look a lot different but I can't say they look really that worse... Different isn't always worse. I have to get used to not using autogen as much as I did, but at a certain height everything looks quit good, I have to say. And the sparse autogen makes the earth still a bit alive, specially when you are on the ground, but also up in the air. And it's all smooth as butter now...Well, at least due to this change of plans (and mind) I am starting to enjoy FS X more and more...
May 22, 200719 yr Guys,Norway Scenic is a must. It makes very realistic coastlines, new landclass, and adds thousands of islands and lakes. Plus real rock! That is what Norway is...a rock with lots of trees on it, plus some glaciers. In addition to Scenic, I also strongly recommend Norway Quality Mesh (its in the FS2004 Scenery folder at flightsim.no). This mesh is very accurate, and my scenery package, Norway Bridges, has a perfect fit to this mesh. Take a peek at my link and push the FSX button, and you`ll see how huge improvements easily can be made x:-)
May 22, 200719 yr Thx, works like a charm. Looks a LOT better! What a difference! It's a completely different country now. I plan to download the mesh tomorrow (yes, I am really focusing on Norway now! ;) ): does it matter where that one ends up in the library menu? Above or underneath the Norway Senic X folders?
May 23, 200719 yr I'm downloading your bridges right now. ;) I noticed on another page a file called nbx_upd1. zip. Is that an update for the other six bridges (norway_bridges_x.zip)? And do those bridges show up regardlessly of what autogen-setting I have...? (And do you maybe know what spot the Norway mesh should be in, in the Library list...? I'm new to addons like these... ;) )EDIT:Aha, I already noticed it's indeed an update. ;) And apparently you have to add them to the Filelibrary too. I think I should place them underneath Norway Scenic X...? I'm glad I can read a little Norsk btw...! ;) Do you Norwegians think no one outside of Norway will be interested? Norway is one of the most beatifull countries there is! Really! ;)I just read the readme (in English ;) )that comes with the mesh... Looks quite complicated... Does all that info about editing cfg's (like editing "TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19:) apply to FS X too...? Hm, maybe I'll forget about the mesh and just stick with Norway Scenic X...
May 23, 200719 yr The update on my site is the same bridges, with new details. Some of them are now even safe for pedestrians, as I have added fences :) Updating is simple, just overwrite the old bgl files in Norway_Bridges_X. Btw the bridges are made from original drawings, so they are accurate scale models with correct sailing height. The bridges show up regardless of autogen settings, and have a built-in exclude for autogen bridges. I have not seen any frame rate impact in FS9, nor in FSX. I work hard to make as effective models as possible, and the textures are 100% FSX standard. I will update in the file library later, when I have reworked 5 more FS9 bridges. Then I will also upload the package to Avsim, with a better readme that explains that Norway Scenic and Norway Quality Mesh is a must. The Quality Mesh is even better than the default SRTM mesh. If you install all this stuff, you are really in for a treat! The mesh is easy to install: Just put it in Addon Scenery, and add it from within FSX. That`s it. The Max Vertex Level thingie is for FS9 only. If memory serves, just drag your FSX slider (can`t remember the slider name as I am at sea now without FSX, sob!) to 76m, and the terrain (complexity?) slider to full. Now, a few links for you:Norway Scenic: http://www.flightsim.no/cgi-bin/file/download.cgi?ID=3896Norway Bridges: http://www.flightsim.no/cgi-bin/file/download.cgi?ID=3923Norway Airports: http://www.flightsim.no/cgi-bin/file/download.cgi?ID=3914Norway Quality Mesh: http://www.flightsim.no/cgi-bin/file/download.cgi?ID=3638Then som info about priority in the Scenery Library...if memory serves:Norway AirportsCloud9 ENBRNorway BridgesNorway ScenicNorway Scenic ExcludeNorway Mesh.......Addon Scenery (Default folder)The rule is, first models, then landclass, then mesh.PS1: Norway Bridges adds 3 bridges close to Bergen ENBR, therefore a good companion to the Cloud9 scenery.PS2: I`ll put up all the links on my FSX page later this evening, if work permits :-bigangel
May 23, 200719 yr And here are some before and after pictures of Norway Scenic X and Norway Mesh.
