We have Hippos 2 is released (for Bushpilots)

Featured Replies

I usually just lurk here, so please forgive me for posting about my WE HAVE HIPPOS project, which was just released in version 2. (Freeware)
I looked if there is a rule against posting one's own freeware content, but I did not find it (or overlooked it).

DOWNLOAD FOR FREE on flightsim.to

It could be interesting for Bushpilots, animal spotters, Seaplane Users, Africa fans....and similar)

It's just one folder for installation in the community folder, so easy to use.

The features :

- 41 airstrips in an around Malawi, all with drk & cold starting spots.
- 40 static Animal POI
- wandering elephants in four National Parks
- 16 seaplane starting spots (Dock Paring for starting dark & cold)
- boats on Lake Malawi

More details ato be found on the download page on flightsim.to

Documentation included in the download.

The idea behind this is immersion, not so much 100% true to life buildings or such things.
Malawi was so empty, I decided to fill it with more life for the bushflying afficionados.

So if you enjoy bushflying in Africa, watching animals, want to take your seaplane dark & cold for a ride...maybe give this a try..it's free.

I did not want to make a new thread for this.

While I am still working on WHH v3, I have in the meantime created a little Mod that focuses on Animal Safari flights.

It's in the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and has herds of moving elephants, Giraffes and Rhinos and some Hippos as well.

The Maasai Mara is located just north of the Serengeti, across the border from Tanzania in Kenya.

The Mod has 5 Airstrsips and 18 animal Locations in a relatively small area, so it it's easy to find them.

The animals can more easily be found by having Fauna POIs activated in the Filters on the Worldmap for route planning and when looking out the window, you can activate the Fanua POIs in the assistance options of MSFS.

The Rhinos however wander about quite extensively and are small groups, so the POIs are only a very rough approximation of their current whereabouts.

Thank you for your comments 🙂

I was fascinated when watching African wildlife documentaries as a kid on TV and often they had bushplanes to get video footage from the herds from above. MSFS has brought up some memories about that, hehe.

I tested the scwnery with Sim Update 9 and found no issues, j4i.

Next project will be called "Tanzanian Connection" and will feature a route of airstrips to fly from Lake Malawi to the Maasai Mara or vise versa. To get a travel route between both the sceneries.

One of the airstrips on that route is HTOY and it will have a little 'animal crossing'.

cheers !

be careful out there flying in Africa, you could get killed by vultures, like Michael Grzimek, son of famous Africa explorer in Tanzania, zoo director and film maker Dr. Bernhard Grzimek. he had wished that after his death, his body would be laid out on the African plains to be eaten by scavengers.

"On 10 January 1959, the plane piloted by Michael collided with a vulture and he lost control. He was killed in the crash. He was buried the same day on the top of the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania. Later the government of Tanzania erected a stone pyramid over his grave."

That paint reminds me of Kermit Weeks Sikorsky S-39.   I love the way his example looks,  and that shot you posted is awesome!   I wish we had the S-39 in sim.    You're is a Zebra,  and Kermit's is a Giraffe.

Quote

1930 Sikorsky S-39

This remarkable and eye-catching Sikorsky S-39 represents one of the 21 aircraft of this type built by Igor Sikorsky in 1930-1931; however, this is the only airworthy example of the type and is the oldest flying Sikorsky in the world today. It was painstakingly restored by Dick Jackson of Rochester, NH. The project began in the 1960s, with the hull of NC-50V, discovered in the Alaskan bush. After 40,000 hours and nearly four decades, the S-39 took to the skies again.

The “Spirit of Igor” was named for the “Spirit of Africa,” an S-39 owned by African naturalists Martin and Osa Johnson, and for Igor Sikorsky himself, a true visionary and pioneer in aviation. He built the first successful four-engine aircraft in 1914, later his series of flying boats, and finally, developed the helicopter. The giraffe spotting on the fuselage is authentic to a specific sub-species, of which there are 9 different types. It was projected onto the hull in order for the painting to be completed.

Kermit’s Comments

I had been eyeing this wonderful aircraft for years and have long admired the spirit and skill of Dick Jackson. Dick visited Fantasy of Flight some time back and offered to leave the Sikorsky here for a while on. On one of his visits here, Dick and I took it flying… Up in the most beautiful conference room in the world, we started negotiating. Dick really wanted the airplane to end up here and was willing to take payments over time. So how much did I pay? More than I was willing to spend but less than his bottom line. But we both agreed in the most important principal: the aircraft would be treasured at Fantasy of Flight.

Year Built — 1930 original

Top Speed — 119 mph

Gross Weight — 4,000 lbs

I have now begun to finalise work on the third and final edition of We Have Hippos.
I hope to give it to my Betatesters soon, but it always depends on the weather if I want to work on it o not.

Meanwhile, I was exploring some elephants with the SWS Bigfoot Car in the Mvuu Camp region.
