May 22, 200719 yr Are some of these people so clueless? They are posting stuff so specific to their computer and issues like he is help desk or something.Sheesh!I bet, if Bill Gates visits their town and has a Q & A Session..these blokes would bring their PC and ask him to solve their Word document poblem that they have been meaning to solve all these times.:)Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
May 22, 200719 yr Yeah,And the sad thing is that probably we won't get a FS11 for PC. FS11 will be designed for XBOX ;-) End of all hardware problems and complex beta testing and support questions spanning over 4 or 5 different OS and hardware components produced by 893 different manufacturers and hardware drivers spanning from WHQL to beta versions tweaked by some gurus for all those components and all those other billions of programs that people download install and mess up whatever stability that's left on the computer. ;-)Ulf B
May 22, 200719 yr Of course we will get FS11. FSX with SP1 runs fine. Some people just expect too much. Also don't forget that FSX engine is being used for the new MS train sim too! When DX10 patch comes out and also when the hardware has caught up (say a year from now) few people will be complaining (IMHO).Love FSX+SP1, even on my 2 yr old "crappy" computer (AMD3500 single core) it runs great.:) Matthew S
May 22, 200719 yr MatthewS,I hope your'e right, but I get a bit depressed over all those postings by people having troubles with SP1 and FSX. (Makes me wonder how many of them that use Vista) I'm very satisfied with the SP1.Ulf B :-)
May 22, 200719 yr I did uninstall of FSX and then reinstalled FSX and SP1, as suggested in Phil's blogs. And, no problems at all!I think a lot of people did not follow Phil's advice and did not do a clean install. Matthew S
May 22, 200719 yr MatthewS,I didn't do a clean reinstall. But I had a clean copy of FSX on another drive and I copied back all essential files to make sure that I had clean FSX files. I made new backups of all personal config files files. After installation of SP1, I installed the SDK SP1. Then I disabled all entries in dll.xml, exe.xml and scenry.cfg to make sure that no add ons would cause any trouble. FSX worked all OK with very good fps. No stutters. No blurries. No problems if you know your way around FSX and have a backup of your original install. I know have a complete backup of the original FSX + SP1. Will come handy when som badly designed installer messes things up. But I must confess that I seriously considered to do a fresh reinstall of FSX, but it was to tempting to avoid reinstalling all add ons.But if somebody would ask for my advice, I'd recommend to do a clean install of FSX. If I had run into any problems I would have done a clean reinstall before posting about problems.Ulf B
May 22, 200719 yr Commercial Member I myself have no complaints about FSX +SP1 even on this 2GHZ box. For a program this complex I think they did a pretty darn good job and it actually runs quite good. A few hiccups here and there and a few blurries once in awhile I just consider them as turbulance , high humidity and air pollution. It's as real as it's gonna get. :(Daveo (ESSB) Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager
May 22, 200719 yr I have no problem with FS11 to be on anyone of those high end consoles(I have all of them) as long as addons can be developed for it. I also have no problem with the current FSX (with/without SP1). The only problem I have is that the addons have been slow comming. I am patiently waiting for new version of ActiveSky, Grand Environment, Aeroworx B200, new version of Radar Contact. I already bought feelthere citationX, SceneryTech class, and FSGenesis mesh.
May 22, 200719 yr I agree. Phil should kill off the ability to post on his blog and refer to the FSX sites for further discussion.WOZ
May 22, 200719 yr Yes I followed the advice.Uninstall FSX, re-install FSX add some non volatile old tweaks like runway lights plus addons like the new FSUIPC, set up the old slider settings and make sure FSX runs as before. THEN load up SP1. Then lock the fps to help stop blurries. Then start slowly changing settings and see what happens. Its called the scientific method.I still find it puzzling why people want to set all their sliders to maximum and whinge about the results and conclude that FSX is therefore crap.Glad I got that off my chest. I feel better now (LOL) CheersWOZ
May 22, 200719 yr >FSX with SP1 runs fine. Some people just expect too much. You can't really make a blanket statement like that. Sure it runs fine for you, but to clearly has a serious issue or two for other people, which need to be addressed.
May 22, 200719 yr Author Agreed but he is provoking that behaviour by answering some of the questions.Als notice that Phil advises to never ever increase TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT above 40 but here at AVSIM we see advice to go far beyond 40 (have seen people here that tried 400!)
May 22, 200719 yr You agree, but still disagree, aren't you?>Agreed but he is provoking that behaviour by answering some>of the questions.IMO I would say that he seems to be a very nice person, trying to give general advice regarding the new SP1 tweaks.>Als notice that Phil advises to never ever increase>TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT above 40 but here at AVSIM we see>advice to go far beyond 40 (have seen people here that tried>400!)I've read a lot of, and I mean A LOT, of good advice on tweaking on this and on the FS2004 forum. I would be very happy if as much as 10% of the advice given had any effect at all on my configuration. A lot of snake oil and advice that have no bearing at all on your specific computer configuration. I'm running FSX with TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 and FSX SP1 gives me good fps with no stutters and no problems with blurries. So why would I waste my time with endless changes of config parameters and benchmarking them?Just my opinion.Ulf B :-)

Nothing wrong with that. He has access to developers and the deep knowledge on these paramters where the answers are factual in nature and educational and it helps all simmers in general. But to ask him something like "I have an AMD processor and I have 2 Gig memory but I have blurries...can you tell me how to get rid of that" is kind of childish.is allMAnny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
May 22, 200719 yr Author Guys, guys,All I want to say is that some people can't see the difference beween the questions he answers and the ones he leaves. Maybe it is beter if he made new topics to answer those genuine questions. Now its in the Blog thread and to some people it seems he's answering support questions.
