Yeah I logged in once with my usual Steam password after migrating the system.
That's all I needed to do.

That's a lot easier than what I had to go through. Thanks for sharing.

"I was also on a budget. I will know this evening if I made the right decision."

It was the right decision. Smart choice!

Yes it is! I should have done this upgrade sooner. Huge difference!

Out of interest what CPU did you upgrade to, what from and what impact has it had on your performance?

I'm thinking my next upgrade will be to my AMD 3900x which is the limiter on my PC, although i am waiting it out until the release of Zen 4 to see whether I go to the 5900X or go all out on the new architecture with Zen 4 and new board.

I recenly upgraded my CPU and cooler from a 3900x to a 5900x and got a higher FPS boost than expected. I wanted a new cooler as well (Dark Rock Pro) which even lowered my temps a bit compared to my 3900x which also had a good cooler.

CPU: AMD 5900x  | Mobo: MSI X570 MEG Unify | RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo | GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3090 | Storage: M.2 (2 & 4 TB) | PSU: Corsair RM850x | Case: Fractal Define 7 XL
Display: Acer Predator x34 3440x1440 | Speakers: Logitech Z906
Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

I upgraded from an i7 2600K (10 year old processor) to an i5 12600K and I doubled my performance in MSFS. This is without any overclocking.

On my first flight, I thought that my settings were the same as before the upgrade, since the server is supposed to save the settings. The sim was silky smooth. When I went to check my settings, it had defaulted to ultra. Amazing!

I had compromised a lot in order to achieve the best and smoothest experience. Now I can up the LOD settings even in NYC's  SamScene and still have a smooth sim. I'm still using a 1080P monitor, but that will eventually change. For now, I'm just going to enjoy what I have.

Thanks for the feedback.

I run 4k, mostly ultra on an rx6800 non-xt with track ir. I'd like to keep frames above 35 stutter free so that panning track ir is a non jerky experience.

I'm currently CPU bound on the ground with terrain lod at 150, this gives me 26-30 on the ground and upto 50fps once above 1000 ft when the CPU becomes unbound which makes track ir panning annoying to me on the ground.

I'm looking at my options as would like to get my frames above 35 on the ground and a terrain lod of 250. My graphics card and cpu can handle 250 terrain lod at 1000ft easily at 40fps+ so need the extra cpu grunt on the ground as can see in dev mode this is where the bottleneck is on the ground/ take off/ approach.

Im waiting to see what the next gen Zen 4 brings in terms of perfomance upgrade, and cost bs £399 for the 5900x which should hopefully lower once next gen releases.

I'm currently researching the increase in performance I could expect just moving up 1 generation on the zen 3 platform and if it will be enough to meet my requirements, also waiting on the high fidelity planes to see what impact that has on cpu load before I commit to a chosen route.

Glad you get to enjoy Ultra with your new set up, I know at 4k I occasionally, after take off, go to the settings and crank them up to enjoy the flight at max fidelity & smoothness, before, turning them down again before approach.

A minor annoyance, but i would rather be able to set and forget.

If Asobo employed a variable Lod setting between ground/airbourne. Well now that would be nice!

You have always been able to just re-activate Windows and install new drivers. No need to reinstall Windows.

Can confirm. I did just this 2 weeks ago. Re-activation of Windows was a little tricky but got it to work by de-registring the old PC online.

Intel Core i5-12600k, Nvidia RTX 4070 Super, 128 Gigs.
