As an IT Admin color me unconvinced. Just my professional opinion. Im not referring to CPU/HDDs and video cards... Im referring to entire chipset swaps .. IE the motherboard. That is a hit or miss.

Not so much if you uninstall the drivers before the swap. Windows then installs generic drivers which you then update later.

Im aware .. but how many people you know took the time to do that ? And how many people are aware that depending on how the uninstaller is written would not  completely remove everything that was installed ?

Not trying to argue with you but you have your opinion I have mine .. Its ok .. Your system works and so does the ones that i oversee.

Cheers

I can't believe that the problem was that the time (region) on my computer was wrong. As soon as I changed it, the sim loaded.

This fixed it!

Unbelievable.

I have some great news. I did not have to download any sceneries. All I had to do was point to the folder where I had everything installed in my D drive.

Update: the only thing that needed to be downloaded was the Spain fix in the content manager. I did a back up right after WU8, but not after patch. I'll gain 5GIG. LOL

Glad you got it resolved with a simple fix.

Out of interest what CPU did you upgrade to, what from and what impact has it had on your performance?

I'm thinking my next upgrade will be to my AMD 3900x which is the limiter on my PC, although i am waiting it out until the release of Zen 4 to see whether I go to the 5900X or go all out on the new architecture with Zen 4 and new board.

With a little help from @tomcatman24 I upgrade from an i7 2600K to an i5 12600K & MSI board. This thread convinced me to upgrade:

I was also on a budget. I will know this evening if I made the right decision.

DJJose: I wish you would post the time region reset for new hardware hint to the tips and tricks subforum. Might help others.

I wonder if MS programs are the only ones that do nothing when you click the executable if your clock is set wrong?

I think that's a good idea along with the above link.

Just want to share my experience.

I upgraded from my ten-year old system (2600K + Asus P8P67 motherboard) to 12700K + Asus TUP Z-690 Plus Wifi.

When I plugged in my old system SSD, it did not boot up.
I needed to do a universal store (for storing the system drive to dissimilar hardware) using Aomei backupper profession version (which costs me US$46 😥).

After that, I just installed all the new drivers (chipset, LAN, Audio etc.)  and everything works fine including MSFS.

But I am using MSFS Steam version.  Don't know if that makes a difference.

I think that you hit the nailed it in the head.

Today, I find it hard to believe that setting the wrong region could cause the sim not to run at all. To me, it's some sort of a "panic mode" feature that the MS Store has in order to prevent piracy. I have no idea of what it is that they fear. The user doesn't own the software. We are just renting it! My conclusion comes from the fact that I managed to load my original win 10 installation with the new board, successfully activated win 10, ensured that I was logged into ms store & xbox ap, and I could not run & test MSFS. When I clicked the icon, nothing happened even though prior to the upgrade I had no issues loading the sim.

It wasn't until I began hounding support with requests for calls & writing bad reviews that hours later when I clicked the icon miraculously the sim decided to load.  I don't think that those who were smart enough to buy the Steam version have to deal with these types of problems all associated with the MS Store & XBox Ap.

Today I recalled that I also had this same issue when I changed the e-mail address of my MS account. That also caused the sim not to load. After speaking to an agent, a few minutes later, the sim loaded. Coincidence?

My recommendation to anyone considering buying the license to play MSFS is to get the STEAM edition and avoid having to contact MS Games for support. I'm glad that's over for now. 😀

Even steam will REQ you to re-login after changing hardware and they have now gone to backup pin authorisation to an app on my phone, and steam only do the basic MSFS.

Yeah I logged in once with my usual Steam password after migrating the system.
That's all I needed to do.
