Plight planner benefits?

Featured Replies

Noob question: Is there a compelling reason to use Active Sky’s flight planning utility (I bought AS for the weather engine… not a flight planner)?
We have many flight planning apps available (P3D, Lilnavmap, Sim Brief, PFPX, etc); why would I use the AS flight planning utility instead?  Thanks.  Scott

Scott--I think they provide a rudimentary planner (route only) because the weather depiction is a lot better when a flight plan is loaded.  So in case you don't have one, you can use the one provided in AS.  You get a lot more from the dedicated planners (SimBrief, PFPX) in terms of fuel burn, NOTAMs etc.  I've never used the AS planner myself...either PFPX or SimBrief.

One of the things I like about LilNavmap is that I can filter out all of the stock airports, leaving only the 3rd-party airports I installed myself.  Do Simbrief and PFPX do that?

no, as best i know ...... the later is as up date (as you wish it to be) irrespective of how "recent" is your addon.

often you realise your addon is way out of date.

& besides, are you looking for a route planner or a fight planner ..... & for a C172 or a B77W ????

Thanks for the reply, vadriver.  I fly primarily smaller GA planes and not airliners so much. I have the notion that Simbrief and PFPX are most useful for airline flight planning.

I’m not even confident that filtering out stock airports is a feature I should place high on my list of desirables.  I have many add on airports that I can easily forget them all and find myself flying to/from those I’m most familiar with.  Using Littlenavmap reminds me of the others available to me.  Thanks.

very much the case, though corporate cessna / beech etc props & jets are supported for OFP dispatch, not just route plans.

LNM can provide route plans with some advise on fuel needs.

for now, cheers
