Cant fly FSX

Featured Replies

I just bought a new computer - Dell 410/9200 Vista Ultimate 2.66G Intel dual core 6700, 4G ram, Nvidia 8800 GTX 768M ram with the hope that it might just run FSX.I installed FSX successfully and downloaded and installed SP1. If I fly the default flight - no problem but as soon as I change anything, the aircraft or airport etc, the changes load and then the screen goes black for a second or two and then changes back to the flight for a second and then goes black again. This repeats ad nauseum.I have seen others report with a similar system and no problems. Anyone got any suggestions as to what may be happening here? It's very frustrating.I've had no problems with the computer or the operating system except with FSX.Thanks for any help.Ted

Maybe it's an older version. Not sure about Vista because I don't have it. But check around about the DEP setting.

Check your FS video settings and Nvidia driver display settings. I've seen various combinations of AA and AF cause this. Look around the forum and see what other display settings folks are using with similar hardware.

With a system that good you should be expecting high fps and gorgeous scenery - hope it works out for you.

Yes, as jordanal says, it is AA that is causing it. If your settings are too high and you enable AA then you basically run out of texture memory or so I am assuming. I get the same thing from time to time and disabling AA temporarily always fixes it. Nvidia's vista drivers are the worst excuse for code ever so until they iron out their bugs then you have no recourse other than running xp or disabling AA and lowering settings...________________________________________________________________________________________________Intel D975XBX2 'Bad Axe 2' | Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.20Ghz | 2 GB Super Talent DDR2 800 | Big Typhoon VX | eVGA 8800GTS @ 565/900 | Seagate 2x320GB SATA RAID-0 | OCZ GameXStream 700W | Creative X-Fi | Silverstone TJ-09BW | Matrox Triplehead Setup

I just have to ask ... How much US$ for that great system.>I just bought a new computer - Dell 410/9200 Vista Ultimate>2.66G Intel dual core 6700, 4G ram, Nvidia 8800 GTX 768M ram>with the hope that it might just run FSX.>>>Ted

Problem Solved! You guys are amazing! Yes indeed I do have multiple monitors and the hotfix solved the problem. I can now fly without problems other than a stutter once in a while and that can probably be cured with a few tweaks. Thanks to Tim for the solution. The program is amazing. I thought FX2004 was something. This is just incredible. For the person who asked, the cost of the system was ~$4400 but included an upgrade to wireless N and some other software. Don't tell my wife!!!!!!My last system lasted 7 years. Let's hope this one does too. Thanks again for all your contributions.Ted
