May 7, 20224 yr I'm only flying on Aerosoft A321, but I think this may be an error - not thinking of the aircraft (general problem??):. The entire error message is: Faulting application name: Prepar3D.exe, version: 5.3.17.28160, time stamp: 0x61e6ab02 Faulting module name: terrain.dll, version: 5.3.17.28160, time stamp: 0x61e6aa88 Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x00000000000df08f Faulting process ID: 0x32d8 Faulting application start time: 0x01d8622ab1dfbeb5 Faulting application path: C:\Prepar3D v5\Prepar3D.exe Faulting module path: C:\Prepar3D v5\terrain.dll Report ID: 6372944f-3a99-42a9-95fe-e90800888dd7 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: What could possibly be the problem? It appears to be a problem with terrain.dll, but I'm not an expert on this. Please help! Gaz How does Moses make his coffee? Hebrews it. May 7, 20224 yr Check for the AVSIM CTD guide, it should point you in the right direction. Off the top of my head I would check that Tessellation isn't higher than your PC can handle. Worst case, delete the terrain.cfg file in your "C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3d V5" folder. Then use Orbx central to verify, layer and sync your orbx sceneries to the simulator. There are a few threads around on doing that.
May 7, 20224 yr Have you gotten an error in the same .dll more than once? A C0000005 exception is a memory access violation, and could be caused by a large number of things, and not necessarily in the terrain module. That just happens to be what was executing when the exception got thrown. If it's a one-off occurrence, it's really not even worth trying to track it down. If it happens a lot, but in different modules, then an unstable system (a bad overclock, an iffy DIMM, a weak PSU) a misbehaving add-on or a corrupt texture or other data file, or a graphics/driver problem are all among the possible causes. If you do get multiple crashes in the terrain.dll, then the first thing I'd look at is anything recently-added that might include a terrain element--mesh, scenery etc. Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case

May 7, 20224 yr As a first step to resolving CTD's I always first delete the compiled shader Cache and the Scenery index .dat files Both will rebuild with nice fresh and clean values. They are located in "C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\SceneryIndexes_x64\" I typicaly don't clear them all the time though, just if I start to get unexplained crashes. Otherwise yeah, go for it. May 8, 20224 yr You may also want to make a backup of your prepar3d.cfg file and delete it and let P3D regenerate it (you will need to reset your settings). Best of luck!
