ATIS !!! Grrrrr.... How to make it stop?

Okay. I'm gonna drag this one back.

It turns out that I was getting this on every flight because all of the airports I was flying out of were within about 50-70 miles from KFRR (Front Royal, Va) and KOKV (Winchester, Va) that share an ATIS frequency. I'm not going to bother posting the correct frequency because it doesn't matter. No matter what you have tuned to the com radios, you will receive it.

I departed KBWI and flew the TERPZ7 SID to FLASK enroute to Atlanta. As I approached TERPZ,  I started picking up KFRR / KOKV ATIS. It played continuously almost all the way to FLASK. What was different this time was that I was now in the PMDG 737 and having the same problem as I did in the Fenix A320.

As with the Fenix, using the correct audio panel control to stop the broadcast did not work.

On the F/O side, de-selecting the Mic Selector button (so it is not lit up) above the VHF "2" volume control knob will stop the audio from the ATIS broadcast. Using the VHF 2 volume control knob has NO effect. Changing both the com 2 active and standby to 121.500 does NOT stop the ATIS broadcast.

On the Capt side - nothing I can do to the com 1 radio will stop the ATIS reception. However, if I stop the reception of the ATIS by turning off the FO side VHF 2 mic selector, I can get the ATIS to start playing by selecting the VHF 2 mic selector button on the Captain's side.

Obviously, there is something wrong with MSFS that affects both airplanes the same way. The 3 problems I see are:

  1. The "Mic selector" buttons are supposed to be used to attach the microphone you are using to the transmitter or PA system that you want to use. They should have NO impact on what comes out of the speakers on the flight deck. But they do.
  2. The audio volume control knobs are ineffective. I can press them and they light up, but their position has no impact on the audio output. If I activate (make it light up) the MKR or Nav 1 or 2 channels, I think I can hear the Morse code identifier and beacons, but the volume is really low.
  3. ATIS reception on Com 2 with both freqs set to guard (121.500) should not be happening.

I guess I'll need to try a default airplane so I can file a bug report.

I did the KBWI SID you used.
COMMs, normal MSFS setup, did not change anything except frequency were both set to 119.400.
PMDG737-700.

On departure I got one ATC call “you are leaving my airspace”.

No ATIS problem on the SID.

Possibly you have some MSFS Assistance Options “on”?

I took a few screenshots if needed.

@MDFlierI have seen this problem too. Forget about the in-plane com controls because I think the problem is really with the MSFS ATC (as you've already noticed).  Try bringing up the MSFS ATC menu in flight, then click on the COM3 tab and change the frequency.  I've found that this is usually the source of the problem, especially since the Fenix and PMDG are focused on handling COM1 and COM2, but MSFS doesn't pay attention to that and just keeps rambling the ATIS on COM3.

Hmmm.... I couldn't believe that it didn't happen to you, so I flew the same plan again. KBWI TERPZ7 FLASK OZZIE1 KATL Guess what? It didn't happen to me the 2nd time, either.

That might be where the ATIS is actually coming from, but as mentioned above, turning the FO's Mic selector for VHF 2 kills the audio when it happens.

At least I can get the audio to stop without nuking half the conversation with ATC now.

Glad to hear you it was not a problem on your second flight.
