ATIS !!! Grrrrr.... How to make it stop?

Featured Replies

Okay, at first it was an annoyance that happened every 4th flight or so. Now, it happens every single flight I take (in the Fenix - haven't flown anything else in a couple of days now).

No matter what airport or runway I take off of, as soon as the wheels are up, I start receiving ATIS. It plays right over top of the handoff to departure. I can get it to stop if I turn off all of the lights on the radio panel, but it's not making sense in how it behaves.

If I turn off all of the lights on the Com2 receiver, it will stop. However, doing so also knocks out my side of the conversation with ATC. I can see my responses in the text window and I can hear ATC answer, but I can' hear myself. At this point, there is no getting "me" back for the rest of the flight.

The strange part is that I can re-enable the audio on Com2 and switch frequencies until I am blue in the face, and I get the same ATIS message on every single frequency.

It has destroyed my climb out procedures on every flight. I missed the reduction to climb thrust and getting my flaps up because I was trying to stop it.

Is anyone else seeing this or has fixed it?

HELP!

So to be clear you hear the ATIS even with COM1 and COM2 not having the atis frequency tuned in? Could you please make a screenshot or short video of it? And just to be sure: Are you experienced on the A320 and know how the RMPs work?

There’s a COM 3 radio in the A320 as well I think. I had the same issue yesterday. I tuned COM 3 to the active frequency (via the ATC dialogue) and the ATIS went away. I couldn’t find where the COM 3 radio was without resorting to the dialogue.

COM 3 (on the overhead) is by default set on a DATA frequency. BUT if in the MSFS ATC menu someone accidentally tuned the ATIS into COM3 and forgets about it, this could explain what's hapening here.

Experienced? I guess that's subjective. In the Fenix, not really. In the FBW, if their documentation on the web site is correct, then I am experienced that far. Overall, I have a high level of aviation and avionics knowledge. Dad was an aircraft mechanic. I have  degree in electronics, so I've been around it all my life. Unless there's something wildly out of the ordinary, I believe I have a grasp on it.

I resorted to just trying "things" to turn it off. Turning the "call" button on Com2 off stopped it on one flight. I hit it by accident on departure going for the reception volume knob. Was trying to turn it off and I missed. The next flight, I did hit the reception knob and it also stopped the ATIS. This is how I determined that Com2 was the culprit.

On to Com2. Latest flight, I tried many different random frequencies and each time I hit the transfer key, the ATIS pauses and then picks up right where it left off.

I'm lost, so assume I know nothing,

The pause is happening whenever one changes frequency anywhere, as long as ATIS is tuned somewhere else. It's a MSFS thing. As written above check the overhead RMP / COM3, too. Should be on DATA

Yes, the one on the overhead is set to Data. On previous flights I tried playing with it but it never changed anything. Com2 is the only one that I can stop it with. Next time it does it to me, I will verify that the "call' button stops it (it shouldn't, but I believe that it does).

It feels like something is stuck in MSFS that is making this happen. I'm going to re-fly my last flight in the FBW to see if it also happens in that. I have had this happen before I bought the Fenix, so it had to have been the FBW.

Same thing happened to me in FBW 32NX.  Go to ATC menu above and ATIS is selected.  Click on Ground and it will stop.

I just tried this now and it worked.  I can't guarantee it will work again.

In terms of ATIS in the Fenix playing “in the background”, it has happened a few times when an ATIS frequency is picked up by COM2.

In one of his recent live streams, 320SimPilot talks in detail about the Airbus radio panel and how he dislikes it. Watch in the video below from 4:14:36. I found it quite interesting.

Another thing is that MSFS ATC is a bit all over the place. In over half of my flights I loose ATC audio at some stage. Also the radio operations in the assistance menu bugs out quite often.

Funny you should mention that. The flight that drove me to post this was out of KIAD... Hmm... Something in that area?

That's about the same as I see.

This was also driving me NUTS!! So fed up with it I simply just silenced ATC altogether.

I love it in flight sim, but in real life it's an armpit of an airport. I hate it with a passion.

The last time I went there was to pick up my ex wife's family for our wedding. We told them all to fly into Baltimore since we lived north of there. Well, it was $50 cheaper for them to fly into there, and the airline told them that BWI and IAD service the same area. So her and I ended up making a 3 hr round trip down there to pick them up. Then, I divorced the b... her...

Not to mention the silly layout where you need to ride in the stupid, "moving living rooms"  (mobile lounges) to get from the terminal to the gate. I don't think they could invent a less convenient method if they tried.

And the toll road on the way in is too darned expensive.

Yes but you saved them $50…….lol
