PMDG 737 Series Post LNAV Update Can’t Hold The Magenta Line

Interestingly, this was an issue in the early FSX versions of the PMDG birds...IIRC, it turned out that overreaction to the sim's turbulence effects was the culprit, and it was solved (mitigated) by turning those effects way down.  I wonder if it's the same gremlin reappearing on a different platform...

Yep, and there was also the "zig zag" syndrome due if I remember well when the aloft wind was enabled. I wonder if the "LNAV bug" at the time of FSX was not actually a way to solve the problem...The problem also existed on the 747 and MD11.

PMDG are going to do an overhaul of the LNAV logic for the 737 product line.   Wait - they just did an overhaul of LNAV logic with the release of the 600.  I'm sure you're just imagining the anomaly you're seeing or it's the fault of Navigraph data.   Wait - PMDG don't use Navigraph data since the LNAV overhaul, do they?   Hmmmm.   Probably, PMDG are going overhaul the LNAV logic that they just finished overhauling.  I'm getting a headache trying to keep everything straight.

PMDG is definitely still using Navigraph data, and they will still be using it even after the second half of LNAV 2.0 rolls out - the conversion to full ARINC 424 navdata format.

I have been flying the PMDG Boeings for many, many years now. I’m pretty adept at programming and setting the aircraft up to fly and I have hundreds if not thousands of hours to show it. My point here is I’m not new to these aircraft or their systems but ever since the LNAV are update for both the 600 & 700 I find that at least half of my flights will fly along as if everything is nominal when all of a sudden the LNAV will go into a left or right turn and do lazy circles around the magenta course line. Sometimes it’s it rejoins, often it does not.

Anyone else, or is it just me?

I saw that happen to me too, seems they have to update this issue so NEW stuff seems not working perfect at first release..

cheers 😉

I feel like if R.R. were in charge of building the Egyptian Pyramids for the Pharaohs, they would still be in the planning stage today.
