Recommended Windows Account for Installing MSFS

Featured Replies

Some time ago I came across a recommendation that when installing MSFS in Win10, a Local Account instead of Microsoft Account should be used.  My understanding is that as long as the account has Administrator privileges the account type should not make a difference.  Is there any technical basis for the Local Account recommendation ?

Thanks

No problem if you're ok with the system Apps always signing in for your MS account, which I don't particularly like because for instance I have to access different services with different accounts from my laptop or desktop PCs...

I always ellected to have a Local Account for my Windows operating systems. Did ytry it with an MS account but saw no advantage from it, so I reverted to Local account.

Since I also always erase all data / cookies on exit from EDGE, I am not even plagued with the auto-login quirks that MS apps like to do... ( MS is not the only - MacOS and Android try the same ... ).

Local account vs Microsoft account should not matter. Always used Microsoft account on both Win10 and 11 and never had issues.

I thought it was the opposite. Recently I was in touch with Zendesk support, and IIRC one of the suggestions was to make sure the account is not local.

I have always used a Local Account as I do not agree with sharing data etc across multiple devices. The same with Google / Chrome accounts attempting to sync information across every platform you use.

On a related topic....after downloading MSFS (took under 5 minutes) and clicking "Install", approximately how long should the install run ?  Mine has been running for about 7 hours.  In MS Store, the display says "Installing..." and the (3) dots are blinking.  Just want to know if this is normal behavior.
