In a previous post I mentioned that I was creating startup scenarios for my Kodiaks around the world.  I thought I would get around 900 or so but I only ended up with 612 after adding the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean islands.

Then I started adding new freeware aircraft to my collection but there aren't that many that work n P3Dv5 unless I want to load up with B737s and Airbuses with different liveries.  That might come later.

The Quest Kodiak is the aircraft I fly 90% of the time.  The other aircraft I fly somewhat frequently is the DG808S sailplane.  So I decided to with it what I did with the Kodiak.  Create startup scenarios at gliderports around the world.  I'm starting with California and seeking gliderports around the world should take up a nice chunk of my simulator time and add two or three more pages to my desktop.

During my last flying days I was working on getting a sailplane rating.  I had about a dozen hours of time and was about to solo when my medical expired.  When I went to renew it I failed the eye exam.  So my real airplane piloting came to a halt and I never did get my sailplane rating.  But I enjoy the default DG808S that comes with P3D and the Maule towplane to get me up there.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

You can find lots of freeware planes at simviation that work in P3Dv5.

All of my Boeing, Bombardier, and Airbus airliners come from there.  They need some tweaking of the flight dynamics in some cases, but overall they're pretty good for freeware.

Recently I as looking for a mid-sized business jet like the Cessna Citation Excel or Latitude.  Carenado's Cessna Excel is too expensive at $40, but I found the Cessna Excel and Sovereign at simviation and they're pretty darned nice.

I do download from Simviation Dave.  And Sim Outhouse and Rikooo.  But on many of the aircraft that look good In P3Dv5 and do fly the panels have switches that don't work and a more common fault; the heading selector knobs on the DGs are inop.  This is also true with the A2A aircraft I purchased through Orbx.  I imported the default Lear AP into these aircraft to set the DGs.

This bought back fond memories for me during my FSX days. I used to use FSPanelStudio from Flight1 to mod panels in that way!

Of course now 2D panels have long gone from the new games like MSFS and XP12

What is amazing to me is that one can still use FSPanelStudio to set gauges for the 3d virtual cockpit for freeware and commercial projects in both FSX and P3D... 😉

Thats so neat, didnt know that. All thats missing is a 3D preview function in FSPS of the cockpit which will remove the need to load/reload the sim constantly to check the gauge position. That was the one downside to panel editing. Move it 2mm, load sim, nudge it 1mm, reload sim but all in good fun!
